Bayfront Amps Up Live Music

Live Nation Bringing Concerts to Park

Michelle F. Solomon, ATCA, FFCC

I always wondered why Bayfront Park Amphitheater wasn't put to better use. It's arguably one of the most beautiful and picturesque concert venues in the state of Florida, but much of the entertainment was, well, how do we say this? Well, not up to par with what this great Miami outdoor venue could be offering.

I mean, we have great weather how many days out of the year (lots) and a night under the stars with the city skyline and Biscayne Bay accompanies by live music – oh yeah!

Well, concert promoters Live Nation FL (the same folks who run the Fillmore) have decided to not let Bayfront Park go to waste. They've announced an initial schedule of acts for the 2015 Concert Season at the Bayfront Park Amphitheater.

Included among the performers are Nicki Minaj, most-charted female rapper in the history of Billboard's singles chart, performing July 20. Smashing Pumpkins play a double bill with Marilyn Manson  on July 22. Also, pop legend Boy George with Culture Club comes out of hiding on Aug. 14. The Go Hard Miami Festival featuring Dillon Francis, Rae Sremmund, Mat Zo, Bro Safari and more is May 16. Rock favorites Counting Crows perform in support of their latest release Somewhere Under Wonderland, along with Citizen Cope on July 30.

British alternative indie pop quartet, alt J is October 1; and alternative rock favorites Sublime with Rome along with Pepper, Rebelution and Mickey Avalon rock the Bayfront stage on August 15; Third Eye Blind/Dashboard Confessional June 6; and Outcry Tour featuring Christian Rockers Hillsong United take to the stage on Aug. 2.

Live Nation FL says there's more shows to come.

There's 2,600 seats, private boxes with tables and wait staff service, great sightlines from everywhere in the venue including the lawn area.  Food and beverage upgrades have included both facility improvements and added points of sale in addition to an enhanced and expanded menu of taste tempting food and beverages, say the promoters.

We'll keep you posted as new shows are announced.
