Help Miami Remake Scarface

Crowd Collaborative Will Get Debut at Borscht Film Fest

Call it a movie mashup; tag it a crowd collaborative. Whatever you call it, Scarface Redux sounds like one heckuva fun time.

Started by The Borscht Film Festival and inspired by Casey Pugh’s wildly successful crowd-sourced Star Wars Uncut, The Borscht folks (a Miami nonprofit that awards grants to local filmmakers and artists and is the sponsor of the biannual Borscht Film Festival), are putting out the call to help remake the classic Miami film.

What they’ve done is divided the legendary Scarface,  Brian De Palma and Oliver Stone’s story of Cuban refugee Tony Montana (Al Pacino) who arrives in 1980s Miami with nothing, and rises up to become a powerful drug kingpin, into 15-second clips. Fans are then invited to go online to the Redux site and remake their favorite clips however they’d like. Borscht gives some tips, but wants original, infused ideas, too – live action, animation, puppets, Chihuahuas, whateh-vah. Then upload your version online. Once all of the clips have been remade, they will be combined and edited to create a revamped, crowd sourced Scarface Redux.

According to my friends at Borscht, "While Scarface’s content is as Miami as it gets, Scarface Redux serves as an open dialogue about the perceptions of Miami, both real and cinematic, and gives fans, Miamians, filmmakers, anyone a platform to reimagine the city their way.

Participate at www.ScarfaceRedux.com while scenes last.

Want to see the fruits of your labor? When the redone film is completed, it will premiere at December’s free and big fun Borscht Film Festival in Miami and will also be available online for you to share with the world.

In the immortal words of Tony Montana (maybe this will inspire the masses to crowd collaborate on Scarface): "Me, I want what’s coming to me…. The world, chico, and everything in it."

Now, get out there and be creative!
