Tonight's The Night: miamiartzine 9th anniversary celebration

Oct. 27 Fundraiser Honors Arts Supporters, Organizations

When Publisher and Miami Beach Arts Trust Chairman Harvey J. Burstein conceived the idea of an online publication to better serve South Florida’s Arts community and Arts lovers, he was on to something. "When newspapers began cutting back on arts coverage, there was a need to develop another source to help promote the arts in South Florida," says Burstein. He developed the online magazine concept and miamiartzine.com made its debut on October 13, 2005.

Now nine years later, miamiartzine.com is a viable source for arts and entertainment news, reviews and commentary for South Florida. Last year, miamiartzine.com underwent a mobile makeover. With an entire website redesign, miamiartzine.com is now a mobile friendly site, and has a large following on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

miamiartzine.com is celebrating its ninth anniverary on Monday, Oct. 27 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden in Miami Beach.

The event is open to the public and features a silent auction and reception with entrée and dessert crepes by CrêpeMaker®, donated by Christopher Hoffman and Maria Suñe. Guests will also enjoy an art show collection from artists Naomi Cordero and Sid Daniels. A dance performance will be presented by Brigette Cormier Dance Company. Live entertainment by Cachi and his Salsa Jazz Ensemble was donated by Kim-KCC Productions.

Libations will be provided by Desperados Blended Lager, "a one of a kind beverage crafted at the crossroads of beer and spirits techniques. It is blended with tequila barrel aged lager with notes of lemon flavor to provide a refreshing and smooth taste."

The event will also serve as an opportunity for miamiartzine.com to recognize arts supporters and organizations for their commitment and dedication to the South Florida Art Scene. The award recipients are Merle Weiss and Art Center/South Florida.

“At miamiartzine.com, we are proud that we’ve thrived with an idea that was, in its own way, visionary,” said Harvey J. Burstein, publisher and founder of miamiartzine.com. “We decided that this year, as we celebrate our own accomplishments, we would also like to celebrate the accomplishments of others who are supporting and helping the South Florida arts scene to thrive.”

Each issue of miamiartzine.com contains original articles, reviews and photographs by local writers and photographers who are dedicated to informing readers about what’s going on in the Arts in South Florida. The site has also served as a career conduit for these contributors, as many of the writers and photographers who have worked with miamiartzine.com have received other assignments based on their work being seen in, or the contacts they’ve made through miamiartzine.com.

"We are very proud of what we do and want to share a night of art, food and fun with the community," said Burstein.

miamiartzine.com's ninth Anniversary Party takes place on Monday, Oct. 27 from 6 to 9 pm at the Miami Beach Bontanical Gardens, 2000 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach.

Contribution in advance is $25 for the reception or $30 at the door.
