Jimmy’s current tour show, Rapier Wit, debuted at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh 2009 and is playing to sell-out audiences across the UK, breaking all previous records with extra dates continually being added due to public demand. Rapier Wit is on course to become his greatest tour to date even bigger than the epic Repeat Offender tour which ran from August 2007 to July 2008 and featured over 160 tour dates.

Jimmy recently finished filming the eighth series of 8 Out of 10 Cats, the comedy panel show based on polls, surveys and statistics, this summer. Other recent television appearances include The Graham Norton Show, Would I Lie to You? and QI.

A household name in the UK, Jimmy is also a rising star in the US, where his profile continues to grow. Jimmy recently performed a second Comedy Central Special and also appeared on NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien – his fifth appearance to date. Jimmy’s game show Distraction aired on Comedy Central and was subsequently repeated and has also appeared four times on NBC’s flagship programme The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. This year, Jimmy returned to the Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival to perform for the fifth time.

With conventional media conquered, Jimmy is also a pioneer of digital comedy, topping the album and podcast charts on iTunes and the MySpace comedy rankings, with over 165,000 fans online.

He was the first major comedian to perform within the online world of Second Life, and the results can be seen as an extra on the Comedian DVD.

Most recently, Jimmy has been recording podcasts, entitled The Writers’ Room, in which he and his favourite writer friends chat about the latest news and events, exchanging anecdotes and quips, offering an insight into how comedy material can develop within a writing environment. The podcasts have proved a smash hit, shooting straight to the top of the iTunes download chart.

Friday, Mar 31, 2017 at 7:30 PM - English

Hi. I’m Zach. I play clarinet in the New World Symphony. I’m 24. I want to change the experience of hearing a live symphony orchestra.

I believe all music creates meaning in our lives. Some of the music we play was written hundreds of years ago and some was written weeks ago, but it’s all about the same stuff: the joy, thrill, heartbreak, triumph, and loss that we all feel. But because of the formality of classical music, sometimes little room is left for intense connections to be shared among performers, music, and audience.

So, I’m designing a concert with my musician friends, and we’re breaking down barriers. The idea is to invite you, the audience, to take part in our inner world. We believe you can connect with our favorite music like we do. Come play a part in this experiment.

Childhood Memories from the Other Side of the Water

Friday, Mar 31, 2017 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM - English

MDC Museum of Art + Design presents Childhood Memories from the Other Side of the Water, a visual autobiography depicting childhood experiences and recollections of Cuba by artist Eduardo del Valle consisting of a new series of thought-provoking photographs never exhibited before.

Independently over the past nine years, Eduardo del Valle has worked on a visual autobiography of his experiences and observations central to his childhood, his recollections of Cuba between 1951 to 1961, when he left the country of his birth at the age of ten, never to return. The photographic series Childhood Memories from the Other Side of the Water portrays certain aspects of the artists’ memories that have stayed with him, wedged deep at the far end of his recollection, aspects that have challenged del Valle forever in an unfading fashion. The project culminated into 88 autobiographical photographs, recreating memories shot entirely outside of the island.

The Exile Experience: A Journey to Freedom

Friday, Mar 31, 2017 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM - English

The Exile Experience: Journey to Freedom is a pictorial account of the struggles that the Cuban exile community has endured since Fidel Castro's rise to power, and the successes they have achieved in the United States. Having covered the Cuban exile community and its struggle for freedom extensively throughout the years, Miami Dade College and The Miami Herald Media Company now present this journalistic chronology, which showcases the spirit and accomplishments of the Cuban American community. The permanent exhibition is housed at the College’s National Historic Landmark Freedom Tower, itself central to the story of Cubans in the United States.

MDC’s Freedom Tower was operated by the U.S. Government as a reception center for Cuban refugees from 1962 to 1974. “The building is significant because it represents the important story of the Cuban exodus to America and resettlement during the Cold War,” reports the U.S. Department of the Interior, which has also called the Freedom Tower the “Ellis Island of the South.” Though it operated in that capacity for only 12 years, the building has become an icon representing the faith that democracy brought to troubled lives, the generosity of the American people and a hopeful beginning that assured thousands a new life in a new land.
