Wonderful WinterFest
Florida Dance Association presents midseason festival

You’ve made it through Thanksgiving, the art fairs that blanketed downtown Miami, the winter solstice, the return of the snowbirds, Chanukah, Christmas, and the first decade of the new millennium.
Just in time to rescue you from the holiday hangovers, the Florida Dance Association’s WinterFest pirouettes in with a grand jêté the last week in December, as a belated holiday gift.
Winterfest returns for an encore edition following last year’s successful debut, running December 27 through January 3, in its second winter season.

Looking back at the people and events that proved memorable in 2009

As 2009 draws to a close and we close the chapter one year and look forward to the next, it seems appropriate to remember the year in South Florida arts.
The biggest story of the year, of course, was about money, and the lack of it. The ailing economy was took its toll on just about everyone in 2009. Arts groups are always scrambling for funds to begin with, so the financial havoc wreaked by a certain Palm Beach Ponzi schemer, in conjunction with an already crippled economy, left many arts organizations without expected donations and grant money. In many cases, groups were able to streamline and persevere, but several arts organization were forced to close.
