Home for 8th Annual Fest

Another Gay Movie

A scene from Todd Stephens' Another Gay Movie, a spoof of gay movies in which gay teens set out to lose their virginity before graduation, which will be the closing night film of the Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival.

The image chosen for the 2006 Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival is a jellyfish.  Is there a movie about jellyfish?  No.  Are any events taking place at the Miami Seaquarium?  No.  So why did the directors of the MGLFF choose a jellyfish as their festival image, to adorn posters, T-shirts and the program cover?

“Because the jellyfish isn’t like the other fish,” says Carol Coombes, with a sly smile.

Lisa Morgan was named Best Actress in a Play for her work in Frozen at the GableStage Theatre and E.L Losada was named Best Actor in a Musical for his title role in Jekyll & Hyde at Broward Stage Door at the 30th annual Carbonell Awards, which took place Monday, April 10 at Broward Center for the Performing Arts

“It’s like theatre prom,” said The Promethean Theatre’s Beth McIntosh, as she stood outside Broward Center for the Performing Arts Monday night, April 10, surveying the well-dressed crowd gathered for the 30th Annual Carbonell Awards, which honor excellence in local theatre.

The always-elegant Florence Henderson hosted the ceremony for the second time, opening the show by singing “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from the film Toy Story. By the time the first two awards were handed out—Michael J. Hoffman for Best Sound Design for the GableStage’s Bug and Jeff Quinn for Best Lighting Design for the GableStage’s production of Frozen—it was clear that Miami, specifically Coral Gables theatres, were showing the same dominance in wins that they showed in nominations...
