Erinn Dearth, promoting the Theatre
League of South Florida |

When Erinn Dearth first came to South Florida two years
ago, she was hungry for information about how an actress could get involved with
the local theatre scene. When she came across the Theatre League of South
Florida, she knew she’d found what she was looking for.
“I went on the website and sent in a membership
application,” Dearth says. “The very next day I got the e-mail blast saying
this is what’s going on, this is what you can audition for, these are the job
opportunities, these are the free and discounted tickets available to members,
these are the meetings that are coming up—it’s really an incredible wealth of
opportunity.”
Today, Dearth is the Interim Executive Director of the
Theatre League, handling the day-to-day administrative duties involved with
running the League. She is also one of the foremost advocates of the
15-year-old organization, helping to raise awareness of the theatre community to
the public and promoting the benefits of membership for both individuals as well
as theatres. |

Fiction
Valentine’s Day
By Deborah Sharp
I was browsing the air freshener aisle at the Wal-Mart
when I heard an announcement over the loudspeaker: “Would the driver of a
white Toyota minivan with Florida plates please come to the customer service
counter?”
I had the urge to run, but where was I going to go? It was
February in northern Michigan, and I was wearing the clothes I had on when I’d
left Fort Lauderdale, three days before. I wouldn’t get far in a wrap-around
denim skirt, canvas espadrilles, and a peach cashmere twin-set sweater.
I looked at it this way: At least jail would be warm. I reported to Customer
Service. |
