The paintings of Cuban-born artist Hector Catá will accentuate the rhythms of Spanish and Cuban zarzuelas at the opening concert of the Symphony of the Americas, Tuesday, October 16 at 8 p.m.  It’s a tribute to Hispanic Heritage Month and the concert, the first in the Symphony’s 25th Anniversary season, will be imagepresented at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts Amaturo Theatre. The paintings by Hector Cata will be used in a multimedia presentation accompanying the zarzuela, a uniquely Latin form of operetta sung in Spanish.  954-462-0222  www.BrowardCenter.org   

Great music by one of the best choirs of Russia.  The Moscow Sretensky Monastery Choir is based in a 14th century monastery in the heart of Moscow. It continues the rich tradition of church chants, the sonorous singing for which Russia has always been famous.  Beside the daily Divine Services, the choir has taken on the mission of researching, arranging and interpreting early Russian music that was banned russ choirunder the Soviet regime. Its repertoire also includes songs of the 20th century, most notably from the times of both World Wars, drawing on the full spectrum of Russia’s choral tradition.

The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University (FIU) recently announced the launch of the Virtual Frost Art Museum. With this new website art lovers can view exhibitions from a computer or smart phone. Online visitors can tour the Museum galleries and portions of the Sculpture Park at FIU from a variety of perspectives, including 360-degree panoramic views and close-up views of individual artworks. Current and recent exhibitions, as well as archived past exhibitions, will be catalogued, allowing viewers to visit current exhibitions or exhibitions they may have missed.
