Artist Spotlight

Luisa Pulido

Luisa Pulido

Name: Luisa Pulido

City: Miami

Birthplace: Miami

Medium: Multi Media

How did you get started?
At a very young age, I recall everyday being in my parents’ office, New World Magazine, where my father did his graphic arts. There was always a love for the arts and visual expression. My parents understood this and gave me all the encouragement and materials. I drew, used watercolors, and painted coloring books as I explored my creativity
and cultivated another "language” for myself.

Who or what are your influences?
I believe my family played a significant role influencing me and encouraging me to pursue my artistic goals. Growing up and watching my uncles sculpt or my father air-brushing and then witnessing the marvelous results evolve in front of my eyes. It awakened a passion in my heart that made me the dedicated artist that I am today. As I grew older and became more
knowledgeable of art history, I was inspired by the works of Vincent Van Gogh and Salvador Dali, works that are dramatic and emotional leave profound impressions on me. Traveling throughout the old and new worlds has given me a broader perspective and a first-hand understanding as to what it is I want to capture in my paintings.

What inspires your work?
I would say that my desire to express myself is what mostly inspires my work. Life itself is a masterpiece full of fresh ideas and a fountain of inspiration. As I prepare to start on a new piece, my imagination gets a powerful spark. My studio fills with this unbelievable intensity that makes each work mystical and magical yet fulfills me with total freedom.

How does Miami/South Florida influence your work?
The diversity of people that have inhabited Miami/South Florida provides the opportunity to learn and understand their culture and traditions.

How would you describe your work?
My style is very unique and sincere. My style is my own language that communicates my inner feelings and deepest thoughts. It is a method of expression that delivers my reality as how I see it in my mind. It is an illustration of my vision of the world. Each painting is small piece that makes up the bigger picture of the story of my life.

What has been the most unusual reaction to your work from the public?
It is always a pleasure to see the excitement in people’s eyes when they see my work. It has a very significant impact and I love to hear their interpretations of my pieces.

What would you like to achieve as an artist?
I would like to get recognition for my work as an artist. I would also like to reach young minds and teach them the beauty and importance of creative expression.
