Americans are a very proud people, and one thing that
makes us so proud is our diversity. February is Black History Month, a time when
we reflect on the many contributions made to this country by Black Americans,
and there are several events in South Florida celebrating the artistic
achievements of one of the cultures that make this country such a melting pot.
ArtCenter South Florida is presenting a special exhibition called “Black to
Black: a discourse about color and race.” The exhibit features the work of
ArtCenter resident artists Vickie Pierre, Kerry Phillips, Franklin Sinanan,
Patrick De Castro and George Le Bar. The exhibition is composed of paintings
that experiment with the color black as a hue and use images commonly associated
with the Black experience. The exhibition will be running through February 28
on the fourth floor Public Gallery at Miami Beach City Hall. For more
information check out
www.artcentersf.org or call 305-674-8278.
