did you come by the name “Atomik?”
My friend Honer MH gave me the name. At first it was “Atom” but there was an active writer using the name so I flipped it to “Atomik.”

Stanford Slutsky’s exhibit at
the Weisman Delray Community Center in Delray Beach runs until
April 19, 2013. I had seen Slutsky’s work before, exhibited at the
Coral Springs Museum of Art, and was intrigued to see more. At the
Weisman Center, Slutsky provided a Power Point demonstration to
show how he creates his art. The presentation was insightful and
educational providing a peek into the artistic process, right down
to mixing colors on the back of paper plates. To view the
process go...

Sandy I was first
introduced to Sandy Thorpe at one of my comedy shows through a
friend. After the show, while we chatted, I notice she was wearing
a Star Trek necklace and had the same tattoo on her
décolletage.
I commented on it and she revealed she was indeed, a Trekkie. I
asked if she made any Star Trek art. She did. She...

Let’s talk about how it feels when you walk into the fair. What was
your vision for the feeling you want to communicate straight from
the entrance?

You are from Argentina. How does
your heritage inform your art?
Argentina is the most southern country of the world. It is, as it were, at the end of the world. In this immense territory occupied by Argentina, I was born in a city of the center of the country. In Argentina I have felt a kind of isolation in relationship to the rest of the world and this has generated in me a desire of communicating and expanding my horizons: to go outside...

Where are
you from?
Originally from Virginia. My mom was in the navy, but my grandfather moved to Hialeah in 1910. So I feel like a South Floridian. I was raised in Palm Beach, but moved around a lot. I officially moved to Miami in ‘96 to Biscayne Blvd and 24th St., when it was still hood. I worked at a bagel joint called Bagels & Bagels that has since been bulldozed. My first real job was at New Times in ‘98 working in the design department when it went from paste-up to electronic, that was fun. Then to Britto as a studio assistant for 2 years until Bernice Steinbaum offered me a job as one of her gallery...

Shapiro’s paintings have a soothing, almost dreamy quality to them.
They evoke memories of a world we’ve all experienced, but perhaps
have forgotten. Such things as childhood carnivals, or maybe just
the simple pleasure of enjoying a beautiful Florida landscape. Her
palette is calming, yet compelling, as if the images urge us to
take a moment and cherish what surrounds us, reminding us that
everyday life can be truly remarkable.
Q. Where
are you from and where do you live now?
