Name: Angela Farinelli
City: Oakland Park, Florida
Birthplace: Fitchburg, Massachusetts
Artistic Medium: Acrylic, pencil and markers.
How did you get started?
My interest in art started at an early age as a child. I painted animals,
landscapes and cartoons. My family encouraged me to pursue my interest in art.
I attended Palm Beach Community College and received an Associates Degree in
Graphic Design. While in college I painted animal-themed murals on the walls of
nursery and elementary schools in Palm Beach County.
Who or what are your influences?
My influences are Vincent Van Gogh, Georgia O’Keefe and Frida Kahlo.
What inspires your work?
Florida’s lush tropical palette inspires me. South Florida’s color-drenched
sunsets, textured gardens, glistening ocean and diverse wildlife serve as the
backdrop for my artwork. I enjoy enhancing our states colors on canvas. Also,
the human form with its variety of shapes and sizes serves as another
inspiration for my artwork. I never run out of subjects to paint.
How would you describe your work?
My artwork is about the colorful bold world that surrounds us. Full of
vibrant energy, sometimes Sexy, and at times mysterious with a graphic edginess.
What has been the most unusual reaction to your work?
I’m not sure the reactions could be described as ‘unusual’ but my erotic
pieces have elicited quick glances and some blushing. As a society we are still
not comfortable with the public display of the nude body.
What would I like to achieve as an artist?
Simply put, to be able to live off of my artwork. It would be my dream come
true to spend my days painting. To travel the world and find inspiration
wherever it may come, so that my artwork may touch others and allow me to show
those individuals the world around us.
Upcoming shows:
November 30th, Artist reception and auction to benefit the
Children’s Diagnostic Treatment Center in Fort Lauderdale.
March 2006, Arts United Art Explosion Exhibition location
yet to be determined.
