Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus |
Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus
Seeks Members
The Fort Lauderdale Gay
Men’s Chorus will hold auditions for new singing members on Saturday, Jan. 6
as the chorus begins preparations for the exciting world premiere of the concert
version of a new musical. The show, titled “Imagine This,” is the story of a
troupe of courageous actors trapped in a Warsaw ghetto during World War II who
perform a love story set 2,000 years ago. As its creators poignantly describe
it: “Two worlds, two sets of characters...one story about making impossible
choices in the name of love.” “Imagine This” will be presented at the
Fifth-Annual South Florida Choral Festival, presented and hosted by the FTLGMC
on Saturday, Feb. 24 beginning at 8 p.m. in the Amaturo Theatre of the Broward
Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW 5th Ave., downtown Fort
Lauderdale. In addition to the Gay Men’s Chorus, the production will feature the
Sunshine Cathedral Choir and women from the University of Miami School of
Music.
Auditions will be held Jan. 6 in the music suite (second floor, education
annex) of the Sunshine Cathedral, 1480 SW 9th Ave. Persons interested
in auditioning should arrive no later than 1 p.m. and bring a piece of sheet
music with which to audition — anything from a simple folk or pop song to as
complex as an Italian aria. An accompanist will be provided. Pre-registration is
not required. Persons interested in joining the chorus as a singing member but
who are unable to attend the scheduled audition should call the chorus’ voice
mail at (954) 832-0060. Special arrangements will be made when possible. The
Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus rehearses weekly on Wednesdays from 7:30 to
10:30 p.m. at the Sunshine Cathedral.

Creative Arts Enterprises Seeks Play Submissions
Creative Arts Enterprises
is seeking submissions for the Fifth Annual Lavender Footlights Festival
to be held in Miami on April 18 - 22, 2007. The five-day festival is slated to
return to the Dot 51 Art Gallery (51 NW 36th Street in Miami’s Design
District). The goal of Creative Arts Enterprises for the Lavender Footlights
Festival is to foster new works with gay and lesbian themes to be produced by
theatres around the country. We hope to act as a market to put new and familiar
LGBT playwrights and their works onto the stage to be seen by producers,
directors, and – of course – new audiences. Areas of special interest are plays
that support sexual and cultural diversity; plays
that deal with issues not commonly dealt with in LGBT theater, such as aging and
gay culture or domestic violence; plays dealing with controversial issues from a
unique viewpoint. General Submission Procedure: Each submission should
be formatted as an Adobe or word document and include one copy of the script to
be read , a one-page synopsis of play (for
full length plays only), cover letter with return address and contact
information, as well as a statement that piece has not been previously produced
in Florida. E-mail submissions are preferred. E-mail plays to
submissions@caemia.org or mail to Lavender Footlights
Festival, 59 NE 46th Street, Miami, FL 33137.
Postmark should be no later than December 31,
2006. Do not mail originals. Plays will not be returned. Plays will be
reviewed by a jury panel. All playwrights will be contacted by e-mail by March 1
regarding their work’s inclusion in the festival. For information on previous
festivals or to find out more about Creative Arts Enterprises, please visit us

Arts Writers Wanted
Writers needed for MiamiARTzine.com.
We need writers who are interested in covering the Miami/South Florida arts
scene. We're eager to cover people and events that don't get as much coverage as
well as the big splashy arts events. This is a perfect opportunity for
journalism students and up and coming writers to increase their portfolios, get
experience, have their work be seen and make contacts. We need people who can
write with some flair, who are punctual, who communicate with their editor, who
answer e-mails promptly, and who can turn around a story in 7-10 days. The
ability to take and transmit digital photos is a plus. Writers should have a
working knowledge of the arts and be comfortable with interviews. Writers are
always encouraged to pitch stories that would fit the target and mission of the
e-zine. Please, please, please: Only reply if you're serious about your work. We
don’t have time to deal with writers who wouldn't know a deadline if it bit them
and who don't contact their editor when a story falls through. We’re only
interested in working with writers who understand and practice professionalism.
As the e-zine is produced by a non-profit organization, compensation will be in
experience, clips and perks, including press credentials and entry into events.
If you are interested and meet the above criteria, please reply with a brief
e-mail about your background, your contact info, resume and a few samples of
your writing. E-mail
StarrWriter2000@aol.com.
