Name: Laura Luna
City: Miami
Birthplace: Havana, Cuba
Artistic Medium: Visual artist and sculptor
How did you get started?
I have no conscious memory of how I started. It is something that has
always been there in me.
Who or what are your influences?
Everything.
What inspires your work?
Life and intuition inspire my work. My art is my home; epiphanies have
found me changing diapers, slicing onions, and uncovering insurmountable beauty
in tiny imperfections.
How does Miami/South Florida influence your work?
I am an American citizen born in Cuba, but I am not Cuban or American, I am
a Miamian.
How would you describe your work?
I would describe my work as arte firme. In one of our many
conversations, my friend, visual artist, Gay Garica, referred to my work as
arte firme. For me, arte firme is art that is intended to remain not
only through its concept, but through its actual existence.
What has been the most unusual reaction to your work
from the public?
I don’t believe there have been any unusual reactions to my work; my work
generally gets very strong reactions and responses. The work itself is very
strong, direct, and human. This is also true of its reactions.
What would you like to achieve as an artist?
As an artist, I would like to continue to fill my days with creation and to
share this work worldwide.
Upcoming shows:
I will be exhibiting at Barry University in February.
Where is your work available?
Arrangements can be made to see work at my studio gallery at 2449 SW 7th
Street.
