Katherine Mantel |

Name: Katherine Mantel
City: Miami
Birthplace: Omaha, Nebraska, but I grew up in
Southern California
Artistic Medium: Mosaics
How did you get started?
Majored in art in college – drawing and painting, moved on to fiber arts.
From there ceramics, then fused glass and mosaics.
Who or what are your influences?
My father is a fabulous artist. Art has always been a part of my life –
trying everything myself, museums, galleries, classes.
What inspires your work?
Color and texture
How does Miami/South Florida influence your work?
The bright colors – blue skies with white puffy clouds, lush green
landscape, teal blue sea.
How would you describe your work?
Eclectic. Bits and pieces mosaics. Old and new combined.
What has been the most unusual reaction to your work
from the public?
Surprise that my bits and pieces mosaics are done with china plates – that I
break ceramic pieces to fit them on. That my art glass mirrors are glass and
not tile.
What would you like to achieve as an artist?
To make people smile.
Upcoming shows:
Las Olas II March 3 and 4; Key Biscayne March 17 and 18.
Where is your work available?
Online at
katmantel.com and at my home.
