Keith Clark with Pebbles |

Name: Keith Clark
City: Fort. Lauderdale
Birthplace: St. Louis, Missouri
Artistic Medium: Oil on canvas with a
stand oil glaze
How did you get started?
I always drew as a kid, but I started oil painting in high school. I grew up
in a little artist community in Indiana and sold sketches in local galleries
there. I studied architecture in school instead of art, and although I did
renderings as an architect, I always wanted to go back to oil painting. So, a
year ago, I picked up a brush and went for it.
Who or what are your influences?
You wouldn’t know it to look at my work, but Rodin, David Hockney, and
Francis Bacon. More obvious would be the influence of Mark Rothko, Le Corbusier,
Mondrian, and contemporary artists like Jamali, and Pietro Adamo, just to name a
few.
What inspires your work?
Architecture, light, and photography, But I am especially inspired by the
texture and feel of the paint.
How does Miami/South Florida influence your work?
The colors and the light inspire me, and the art community here is very
supportive.
How would you describe your work?
I call it post-expressionist. I always liked abstract-expressionist art, and
I try to reinterpret it in my own way.
What has been the most unusual reaction to your work
from the public?
Some actually like it.
What would you like to achieve as an artist?
I just like to paint, and I’m happy if someone else actually likes it enough
to hang above their sofa.
