Artist Spotlight

Cecilia Del Toro

Cecilia Del Toro

Name: Cecilia Del Toro

City: Miami Beach

Birthplace: Plato, Magdalena, Colombia

Artistic Medium: Several, such as oil painting, jewelry art, porcelain painting

How did you get started?
I started painting porcelain as a hobby, during a long visit to Hamburg, Germany. I was a surgeon, but eventually turned in my scalpel for a paint brush. Later I enrolled at Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland to study art.

Who or what are your influences?
I have been an admirer of the arts, but due to my busy schedule as a M.D., I didn’t have the time to dedicate to the arts. I have traveled extensively throughout the world and, therefore, I have had the opportunity to admire different kinds of art expressions: paintings, sculptures, architecture, etc. Michelangelo, Rubens, Monet and Renoir have always been an inspiration to me.

What inspires your work?
The following have always been an inspiration to me: the night, the sun, moon and stars, flowers, animals and nature in general. Specific and real places and things inspire me and then I mix them with my imagination.

How does Miami/South Florida influence your work?
The sun and the ocean are two of my greatest inspirations. Florida, an in particular Miami Beach, offer plenty of both. This city and place also offers a lot of colors, which I love.

How would you describe your work?
Magic. My work is always a mixture of real and imaginary things.

What has been the most unusual reaction to your work from the public?
A journalist looking at one of my drawings at an exposition suddenly exclaimed, “I was there when I was a child!” The drawing was of an imagined place.

What would you like to achieve as an artist?
Immortality. To leave something to humanity that can be admired for centuries.

Upcoming shows:
None at this time, but I am looking forward to participating in some art galleries next year. I am now looking for an excellent art representative who can truly represent me and my art.

Where is your work available?
You may contact me at deltoroarts@gmail.com or call me at 305-671-3694.
