Ghost Light Series
The Ghost Light Series and the Studio Theatre of Wellington is holding non-Equity auditions for an upcoming play reading of Horton Foote's The Trip to Bountiful.
The story starts in a Houston flat where Carrie Watts is determined to outwit her bossy daughter-in-law, and go back to her hometown, only to find that trains don't go their anymore. She eventually boards a coach to a town near her childhood home. On the journey, she befriends a girl traveling alone and reminisces about her younger years and grieves for her lost relatives. With the help of the local police force, her son and daughter-in-law are in hot pursuit. However, Mrs. Watts is not to be beaten, and she persuades the understanding police officer to drive her to Bountiful. But what she sees is not what she expects. The Trip to Bountiful is a story full of memories, strength and acceptance. Lake Worth Playhouse
Auditions will be held May 12-13 at 7 p.m. for the musical Hair at the Lake Worth Playhouse. Eco-Art Gallery by the Sea
Artists are invited to participate in Eco-Art Gallery by the Sea, a public art project created by the Environmental Coalition of Miami Beach (ECOMB) to embellish many new beach trash cans oceanside between Government Cut and 23rd Street in Miami Beach. Artwork sketches submitted to ECOMB will be featured in a menu booklet for corporate and individual sponsors. See www.ecomb.org/ecoart.html
Artwork should focus, as much as possible, on South Florida environmental themes, such as animal or plant life, habitats or South Florida influences.
Funds raised from the project will pay for additional beach clean up initiatives and educational projects by ECOMB, the City of Miami Beach, and Miami Dade County.
Compensation and Copyright
Artists will be paid $200 for each sponsored design that has been (1) approved by the Eco-Art Gallery by the Sea Design Review Committee, (2) printed and (3) officially featured on beach trash cans. ECOMB holds exclusive rights to market the artwork for use on any trash cans or recycle bins, in a coffee table book and other revenue generating ideas. The artist retains the copyright of the original artwork featured on adopted trashcan(s) and may choose to donate it to ECOMB for future fundraising purposes. To deter theft and vandalism, the opportunity to purchase prints on ECOMB's website will be clearly marked on the plaque. Funds raised from the website sale of print replicas will be split 50/50 with participating artists and ECOMB.

MiamiARTzine.com is currently seeking submissions of unpublished short fiction. Any South Florida writer is encouraged to submit their work. MiamiARTzine.com is presented by the Miami Beach Arts Trust, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising the awareness of the arts in South Florida and nurturing the voices of those involved in the arts. That said, we cannot pay monetarily, but writers would have a chance to have their work seen by our 4,000-plus subscribers and count it as a publication credit.
Guidelines:
The submission process is open to residents of South Florida
Stories should be 3,000 words or less
Stories must be sent as an rtf (rich text format) attachment in 12pt. Times New Roman, double-spaced, with one inch margins and the words "Fiction Submission" in the subject line
As MiamiARTzine.com is open to anyone who subscribes or logs on, stories must not have any graphic sex or excessive profanity
Writers should include a brief, 100 word publication history/bio
Writers must include name, address and phone number for contact purposes
Stories must be e-mailed to Mary Damiano, editor, StarrWriter2000@aol.com
Writers will be contacted if their story is chosen for publication.
Writers retain the rights for their story and are free to have it published elsewhere, however, the story will remain available in the MiamiARTzine.com archives
Arts Writers Wanted
Writers needed for MiamiARTzine.com. We need writers who are interested in covering the Miami/South Florida arts scene. We're eager to cover people and events that don't get as much coverage as well as the big splashy arts events. This is a perfect opportunity for journalism students and up and coming writers to increase their portfolios, get experience, have their work be seen and make contacts. We need people who can write with some flair, who are punctual, who communicate with their editor, who answer e-mails promptly, and who can turn around a story in 7-10 days. The ability to take and transmit digital photos is a plus. Writers should have a working knowledge of the arts and be comfortable with interviews. Writers are always encouraged to pitch stories that would fit the target and mission of the e-zine. Please, please, please: Only reply if you're serious about your work. We don’t have time to deal with writers who wouldn't know a deadline if it bit them and who don't contact their editor when a story falls through. We’re only interested in working with writers who understand and practice professionalism. As the e-zine is produced by a non-profit organization, compensation will be in experience, clips and perks, including press credentials and entry into events.
