A crowd of Miami Jewish Film Festival patrons turned out to a special fundraising dinner at the Miami Science Museum Thursday, January 22, to honor Harvey J. Burstein, publisher of MiamiARTzine.com and arts supporter extraordinaire. Harvey received the 2009 Community Arts and Education Award for his dedication to the arts and Jewish education. Like many arts lovers, I can certainly attest to Harvey’s dedication to the arts. Yes, he donates to many arts organizations, but he’s also known for showing up and spreading the word about arts events, and rolling up his sleeves and helping out in whatever way he can. Case in point: Here’s Harvey with actress Lanie Kazan, who attended the reception as well as Saturday’s opening night, in support of her film Beau Jest. Even though he was a guest of honor, Harvey picked up Ms. Kazan from the airport the day before the gala. MiamiARTzine.com is another perfect example of his dedication—it was Harvey’s way of raising awareness of South Florida’s busy arts scene. The Miami Jewish Film Festival runs through February 1 at several venues through Miami and Miami Beach. For more information, visit www.miamijewishfilmfestival.com.
