Hard Day’s Night

The Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale continues its free Third Thursday monthly event series with a special music performance by local Beatles tribute band, Anthology. Beatlemania hits the museum on Thursday, May 21, at 5 p.m., when Anthology begins rocking the best of the Beatles and the Palms Grille Go-Go Groupies begin grooving.
Anthology consists of four local musician—Joe "Holly" Hollingsworth (who also happens to serve as the Museum of Art’s building operations supervisor during the day), on drums/vocals, Joe Bonilla on lead guitar/vocals, George Van Dyk on bass/vocals and Tom Montalbano on guitar/keys/vocals. Anthology has performed at a number of South Florida special events, venues and private parties. Most recently, Anthology was asked to participate in Majic 102.7’s 40th anniversary of the Beatles’ roof top concert, which took place on top of a building roof top in downtown Fort Lauderdale. In addition to the evening’s entertainment, the museum offers free admission, extended hours (open until 8 p.m.), 2-for-1 drink specials in the Museum Café and Wine Bar and gift giveaways from the Broward-Palm Beach New Times Street Team. www.moafl.org.

Organist Gordon James Roberts will be the accompanist. The concert will be performed Saturday, May 23, 8 p.m., at Sunshine Cathedral in Fort Lauderdale. Theatre Openings
The Alliance Theatre Lab returns to the South Florida theatre scene with Strange Snow, its first production in more than a year. Written by Stephen Metcalfe, Strange Snow is about a young war veteran whose efforts to escape his past is dashed when an old platoon buddy comes for a visit. Strange Snow runs May 28 through June 14 at the Main Street Playhouse in Miami Lakes. www.thealliancetheatrelab.com. The Mosaic Theatre in Plantation closes out its season with Neil LaBute’s In a Dark, Dark House, a play about two brothers at odds with their lives and their pasts. It runs May 29 through June 21. www.mosaictheatre.com. One more thing: There’s a lot of really good theatre available right now, but don’t miss A Little Night Music at the Stage Door Theatre in Coral Springs. It’s a sumptuous production, with gorgeous sets and costumes, fine performances and terrific voices. It’s especially nice to see Mark A. Harmon, too often relegated to the ensemble, front and center in a lead role. He does an excellent job, so hopefully directors will move Harmon out of the background and into the spotlight. www.stagedoortheatre.com.
