South Florida Symphony Broadcasting Live Thursday

Local Orchestra Continues Live on Drive Series

Michelle F. Solomon

How about some a great classical duo to perk you up while staying at home?

If you're working at home, it might be a nice bit of soothing background music.

South Florida Symphony will be streaming live music on Facebook Live,  Thursday, April 9 at 4 p.m., broadcast live from South Florida Symphony's headquarters at 2201 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors.

According to Maestra Sebrina Maria Alfonso, the transformative power of music is undeniable -- as we continue to see worldwide from Italy to New York City, people singing and playing music from their balconies.

It lifts the spirit and brings us together, regardless of social distancing. South Florida Symphony plans on regularly keep the music playing and bringing the music to the community (on Facebook, YouTube, via email, etc.) even if we can't all be together, with videos of its past concerts and from its musicians (live streamed from the SFSO headquarters and recorded in their homes).

"Live on the Drive" with South Florida Symphony keeps the music playing during this "intermission" Thursday, April 9, with artists Catherine Lan on piano and Huifang Chen on violin (of Duo Formosa) with a live concert featuring Ludwig van Beethoven’s vigorous and virtuosic Violin Sonata No. 8, the Taiwanese Bang Chhun Hong, and one of technically brilliant Pablo De Sarasate’s most popular, non-Spanish pieces, Introduction and Tarantella.
