The Producers

Sunday, Jan 20, 2019 at 2:00 PM - English

Based on the 1968 film, Mel Brooks’s musical The Producers is a laugh-out-loud, outrageous, crowd-pleasing farce that has been a smash hit since its 2001 debut. Fading Broadway producer Max Bialystock is desperate to get to the top of his profession again, and he finds an unlikely ally in mousy accountant Leo Bloom, who hypothesizes that one could make far more money with a flop of a show than with a hit. Together, the two set out to produce the worst musical ever to hit Broadway, with the worst script, the worst director, and the worst cast they can find; the catch is that they will raise two million dollars to finance the show, and they plan to take the money and head to Rio when the show inevitably closes after just one performance. Too bad for Bialystock & Bloom that, against all odds, the show is a total hit! With dozens of big and bit parts alike, no shortage of showstopping musical numbers, and Brooks’ signature humor keeping audiences in stitches, The Producers is definitely far from a flop.

Miami International Piano Festival presents: Julien Libeer

Sunday, Jan 20, 2019 at 5:00 PM - English

The Klara award 2013 was attributed to him by the audience of the national radio for classical music. The Art of Banksy Exhibition is Coming to Miami!

Sunday, Jan 20, 2019 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM - English

Miami will welcome the US premiere of “The Art of Banksy,” an acclaimed showcase featuring 80 original works created by, arguably, the most intriguing and talked about artist in modern history. “The Art of Banksy” has already generated excitement in Melbourne, Tel Aviv, Auckland and most recently in Toronto. Now Miami will host this spectacular exhibit in Magic City Studios, a part of the newly imagined Magic City Innovation District (MCID) in the Little Haiti neighborhood.

Banksy, whose identity is the art world’s biggest secret, is an enigmatic artist and world-recognized political activist. His graffiti-influenced stencil technique, often combined with anti-establishment slogans, is immediately recognizable and never fails to generate attention.

The Art of Banksy,” curated by Steve Lazarides, the artist’s former agent, displays the world’s largest collection of Banksy’s works and only features pieces that were created by Banksy for private art collectors. The collection offers original paintings, prints, sculptures and rarely seen pieces. Included in the exhibition is the iconic “Balloon Girl” piece, which was ranked in 2017 as “The United Kingdom’s number one favorite artwork,” the “Flag Wall,” an urbanized take on the famous picture of soldiers raising the U.S. flag at Iwo Jima, and many other pieces, no less compelling and equally thought-provoking.

There is no reason why there shouldn’t be a Banksy hanging in every single major contemporary art museum in the world. He is the most powerful recognized artist of a generation that’s been completely ignored by the establishment thus far. I’m proud that together with the collectors we have been able to assemble this collection now being presented in Miami,” says Steve Lazarides.

The Miami exhibit will be mounted in Magic City Studios at 6301 NE 4th Ave, in an area within Little Haiti known as Miami’s Magic City Innovation District. This prestigious exhibition of originals – all privately owned by collectors – offers a rare opportunity for South Florida to enter Banksy’s world. The 20,000 square foot raw warehouse space was specifically chosen as it resembles spaces where Banksy and Steve Lazarides previously mounted shows together.

Miami, with its thriving visual arts scene, is for us, the perfect city to premiere ‘The Art of Banksy’ in the US,” says Michel Boersma, Senior Vice President Family Entertainment & Theatre, Live Nation. “Together with Steve Lazarides, we have been able to assemble the largest collection of Banksy art ever exhibited, from collectors all over the world, which is fitting for a world-class city like Miami.

We couldn’t be any happier to host this incredible show at Magic City,” said Tony Cho, an MCID founding partner and CEO of Metro 1, the commercial brokerage leading leasing for the project. “This is one more example of the type of world-class art exhibitions and cultural alignments Magic City will bring to the Little Haiti neighborhood. We’re confident this will not only make the neighborhood an international destination, but also create vast opportunities for local businesses and residents.

To celebrate the opening of “The Art of Banksy” in Miami, the exhibition is partnering with the Magic City Innovation District Foundation and local community organizations, to give away 50,000 tickets to local children.

A showcase of this caliber will serve as a unique and accessible educational opportunity for over 50,000 local students,” said Miami Mayor Francis Suarez. “It not only speaks to Miami’s position as a world-class arts and culture destination, but it will also inject life into Little Haiti, giving our residents the chance to benefit educationally in one of our emerging neighborhoods focused on art and innovation.

Worldwide demand for “The Art of Banksy” is off-the-charts. Consequently, the exhibit is scheduled to be in Miami for a limited time only. Citi is the official pre-sale credit card of “The Art of Banksy” exhibit. As such, Citi cardmembers will have access to purchase pre-sale tickets beginning Tuesday, October 23 at 10AM EST until Friday, October 26 at 10PM EST through Citi’s Private Pass program. For complete pre-sale details visit website. General tickets will go on sale beginning Saturday, October 27 at 10:00 a.m. and will be available online at webiste. Tickets prices start at $35.99.

AfriCOBRA Collective at MOCA

Sunday, Jan 20, 2019 various times - English

The Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami will present a groundbreaking exhibition celebrating the Chicago-based AfriCOBRA collective, in conjunction with the group’s 50th anniversary. In 1968, artists Jeff Donaldson, Jae Jarrell, Wadsworth Jarrell, Barbara Jones-Hogu, and Gerald Williams founded AfriCOBRA, which stands for African Commune of Bad Relevant Artists. AfriCOBRA’s visual language is defined by the use of text, bright "Cool-Aid" colors, dynamic, gestural markings, and raw, emotive, celebratory images of confident black figures. The vision these artists created went on to define the aesthetic of the Black Arts Movement. This historic exhibition will explore the founders’ individual careers, as well as AfriCOBRA’s philosophy and the impact of the group’s work on subsequent generations.

The exhibition will run from November 25, 2018 – April 7, 2019. Art Basel Miami Beach will take place from December. 6–9, 2018. Artist reception to be announced.

Admission to MOCA is $5, free for MOCA members and North Miami residents.

Bloom - Landscapes Of The Mind

Sunday, Jan 20, 2019 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM - English

Photographer, mixed-media artist, designer, and curator: this is the life of artist Henrique Souza. The Brazilian self-taught photographer began his career in his homeland of Rio de Janeiro at the age of 19, working as a photo assistant for fashion photographers.

In 1999 Souza set his eyes on New York where he starts a new chapter of his life as an artist, and his break came in 2003 when he exhibited his collection of photographs at Fire Island Pines in Long Island, New York.

Inspired by what he describes as the beauty in life, in mundane objects and real people, Souza is a visual lover – a sort of voyeur. Not one to be confined by rules or expectations, his art comes naturally. His work expresses the dichotomy of modern industrial, time-driven lives, alongside humanity. Intimacy, the need for personal space, curiosity and the mischievous nature of man are echoed in his work.

Souza’s works draws upon natural elements found in the fragile world we live in. HIs digital images of landscapes, flora and fauna are transformed with his diverse and masterful photo technics. His creative vision is often displayed in mixed media. Always conveying the mysterious and exotic with charm and wit. He feels he is continually learning and for him, it is all about the journey and the road remains unending. The artist quotes Salvador Dali , the surrealist icon who said “Have no fear of perfection - you'll never reach it. it is really the surplus of longing that cannot find expression in life or in other ways.” This, for Souza is a succinct description of why he makes art.

A visual storyteller, his photographs are intertwined with an array of unconventional materials, including aluminum, acrylic, Lucite, resin, and canvas. What results are moments frozen in time – an exploration of personal space, both sensual and tactile, and a feeling of displacement – being in and out of his creations.

“We kick-off our celebration of International Women’s Month a little early in order to provide ample time to showcase this important exhibition,” said Phyllis Korab, Director of the Pompano Beach Cultural Affairs Department. “We are honored to once again be partnering with Maria Napoles of the Latin American Art Pavilion (LAAP) on another outstanding project, and we are delighted that Maria has introduced us to Professor Natalia Giacchetta and the impressive works of these talented female artists.”

“Engraved” features artists from different regions of the world who develop their artistic work through techniques such as lithography (printing or calcareous stone), printmaking (engraving in metal or wood), digital drawing and graphics, using mostly paper as a noble support of the representative depth of the images. The artworks will be exhibited following diverse techniques that highlight their individuality: with frames, without frames, as installations, and within showcases generating a climate of strength and subtleties. This demonstrates the virtues and characteristics of each individual work but, as a whole provides the viewer with an intense and harmonious journey into the world of each of these artists.
