The sixth year for the South Beach Jazz Festival gets underway Thursday, Jan. 6 with a pre-festival event and then the big weekend of music kicks off with sounds of Jazz throughout the city of Miami Beach from Jan. 7 through 9.

From living legends of Gospel music to Jazz masters, the South Beach Jazz Festival has pulled together local, regional and global talent in an all-star line-up for the 2022 event.

No doubt the highlight of the weekend of jazz is the Friday night appearance by multi-Grammy award-winning legends The Blind Boys of Alabama.

The performance will be at the North Beach Bandshell in Miami Beach.

Donald Harrison, National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master 2022, will perform in the double bill with his quartet direct from New Orleans.

A pre-festival event Thursday, Jan. 6, is at the Faena Theater with the two-time Grammy® award and Latin Grammy® award winner Gonzalo Rubalcaba will be making his Miami debut as a duo with Latin Grammy® award winner Aymee Nuviola together as “An Evening with Aymee and Gonzalo.”

David New, Founder, President and Artistic Director of Power Access and The South Beach Jazz Festival said: “The 6th Annual South Beach Jazz Festival is the realization of a dream, an inclusive music festival, of the highest caliber, in the city I love, Miami Beach.”

The festival will continue throughout the weekend with free performances on Lincoln Road.

The festival also proudly serves as a showcase for the next generation of Jazz talent at the Jazz for Tomorrow Student Stage on Saturday, Jan. 8. The program features The Miami Lighthouse Youth Band, the Jazz Educators Community Coalition Ensemble (JECC), The University of Miami Jazz Quintet featuring Kaleen Barton, and the exciting Florida Memorial University (FMU) Jazz Royalty Ensemble, a twenty-person Big Band experience.
