The captivating mythical story about a cursed town and a girl’s adventure to save it, was co-written by The House Theater of Chicago founder and artistic director Nathan Allen, and company members Chris Mathews, and Jake Minton.

It continues the Arsht Center’s highly acclaimed Theater Up Close Series which features artistic collaborations from stellar local theater ensembles and nationally acclaimed theater companies.

Scott Shiller, executive vice president of the Adrienne Arsht Center says the regional premiere of Rose and the Rime is sure to deliver another audience favorite such as what The House as presented at the Arsht previously. "This is an imaginative new tale for the whole family, which truly reflects the company’s signature style of enchanting music, magic, swirling acrobatic dance, spectacle, and seamless stage craft," he says.

Originally developed at Hope College in 2008 in Holland, Mich., when Allen was a guest artist there, Rose and the Rime won the honor of playing the Kennedy Center as “Best Original Work” in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. It was re-staged by The House in 2009.

"It’s aimed at a crowd that doesn’t go to the theater, which is 90 percent of the people in the world," Allen told a Michigan reporter in 2008. "Theater is usually kitchen-sink realistic. Not a lot of science fiction, action plays, fairy tales or popular music. We’re trying to find stories from popular mythology."
