Art Basel and Miami Art Week kick off this week. Welcome to the most important week in contemporary art. There are things, old and things new, but, no doubt, there are many things to do!

New This Year

X Contemporary

The symbol X represents a destination point and an area of intersection, an evocative title for a new breed of art fair that will emphasize a crossover between the visual arts, fashion and brand collaborations. The fair is under the direction of Matthew Eck.

    Satellite

    Conceived by artist Brian Whiteley, founder of the SELECT Art Fair, this new alternative exhibition will be presented at several beachfront venues, each venue stewarded by renowned art curators and groundbreaking art organizations. Projects span the gamut of art, music, performance, installation, new media and technology activations. SATELLITE will also provide additional programing at the Deauville hotel, home of Miami Project and Art on Paper.

    Art on Paper

    Art on Paper's inaugural Miami Beach edition, the new sister fair to the popular Art on Paper New York City, will feature exhibiting sculpture, drawing, painting, and photography, all unified by the medium of paper.

    Art Basel Miami Beach keeps growing ever year. For 2015, there are 267 exhibitors from 32 countries showing around 4,000 modern and contemporary works inside the Miami Beach Convention Center. ABMB has a new director this year. The new position, Director Americas, will be filled by Noah Horowitz, who joined the ranks in August, from New York where he executive director of the Armory Show in New York, which holds the distinction of being the first large exhibition of modern art in America, having been founded in 1913.

    Last year, almost 73,000 people attended Art Basel Miami Beach, a four-day even considered one of the world's preeminent art show events for modern and contemporary art.

    Aqua Art Miami

    Now in its 11th season, interest in supporting young and established galleries with strong emerging and mid-career artists represented with over 100 artists across 28 cities and 10 countries. One of the draws to Aqua is its location – in a classic South Beach hotel. The director of Aqua Art Miami, appointed this year, is Katelijne de Backer, who was also affiliated with the Armory Show – she was its director for 12 years before leaving in 2011.

    Design Miami

    A marketplace for design where the world's top galleries gather to present museum-quality exhibitions of 20th and 21st century furniture, lighting and objets d'art. Two smaller programs, Design at Large and Design Curio, complement the main exhibition. Design at Large presents large-scale works and Design Curio, begun last year, invites designers, curators, innovators and galleries to present cabinets of curiosity throughout the fair.

    Spanning over 5,000 square feet of exhibition space, France Pavilion is more than a Pop-Up Art Gallery. This elegant event space will host Art Talks and events until Dec. 30. FRANCE PAVILION will of course offer a special programming during Art Basel Miami Beach Week, with a VIP Opening Night on Dec. 1.     Ink Miami Art Fair

    With its focus on modern and contemporary works on paper by internationally renowned artists, exhibitors are selected from among members of the International Fine Print Dealers Association. Founded in 2006 to coincide with Art Basel, the fair has attracted a loyal following among museum curators and committed collectors of work on paper of 20th century masterworks and just-published editions by leading contemporary artists.

    NADA Art Fair Miami Beach

    The New Art Dealers Association is an assembly of the world's youngest and strongest art galleries dealing with emerging contemporary art. First launched in 2003 in Miami Beach, NADA now has fairs in New York and Cologne, in addition to Miami Beach.

    Fridge Art Fair

    Fridge celebrates creative freedom and diversity, encouraging exhibitors to explore all possibilities within their spaces. Exhibitors are drawn from the world art community and include dealers, collectives and unrepresented artists – many regulars, and some new to Fridge. This year the Fair welcomes a major collaboration with Art Shape Mammoth, who will curate and present large-scale sculpture, and performances, including dance and movement artists.
