In her December Winter Concert in Miami Beach, Nicole Henry celebrated a “Decade of the Divas.”
She sang hits made famous by Diana Ross, Ella Fitzgerald, Barbra Streisand, Donna Summer, Chaka Kahn, Doris Day, Dame Shirley Bassey, Tina Turner, and Whitney Houston
She says performing with pianist Michael Feinstein and the Pasadena Pops in a show Feinstein called "The Divas Through the Decades" gave her the idea.
Now she's committing an entire evening to Whitney Houston's music at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts Center in her one-woman show "Nicole Henry: I Wanna Dance With Someone."
She covers Houston's career from the hits that started it all to the singer's later R&B songs.
Henry says the show also weaves in some storytelling in between the classics of one of the best voices in American music history.
The graduate of the University of Miami has an affinity for Houston's music having performed in the musical version of “The Bodyguard,” the famous movie that starred Houston opposite Kevin Costner.
Henry's recent album, “Time to Love Again,” reached No. 4 on the U.S. JazzW eek Radio Chart and remained in the “Top 40” for 20 weeks.
“We’ve released singles from that CD over the year,” she says.
For "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," Houston partnered with director Will Nunziata who also co-wrote the show.
Henry says he is a master at writing for and directing women to highlight their strengths and individuality.
