Poetry and Music Come Together in an Evening of Beauty as Orchestra Miami presents an evening of music based on poetry. On the program is one of the great symphonic poems of all time, Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov. Also on the program is The Four Whitman Songs by Kurt Weill and the Walt Whitman Overture by Gustav Holst. The 50 musicians of Orchestra Miami perform, led by Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi.
Join Orchestra Miami as we explore one of the great symphonic poems of all time, Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov. This gorgeous tone poem, which tells the story of the legendary Persian queen and storyteller who narrates the frame story for The Thousand and One Nights (Arabian Nights), saving her life and others by telling King Shahryar a captivating cliffhanger story each night for 1,001 nights, eventually winning his love and ending his murderous spree.
Also on the program is the Four Walt Whitman Songs by Walt Whitman, a cycle of songs with poetry by Walt Whitman, comprising of "Beat! Beat! Drums!," "O Captain! My Captain!," "Come Up from the Fields, Father," and "Dirge for Two Veterans"and featuring the phenomenally talented baritone, Kyle Pfortmiller, as the soloist.
The program is rounded out with the Walt Whitman Overtureby Gustav Holst, a dynamic and evocative work inspired by the transcendentalist poet's themes of patriotism, individuality, and the human spirit.
The concert will be performed by the 50 musicians of Orchestra Miami and led by Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi.
Sunday, April 19th, 6 PM at Pinecrest Gardens. Tickets are priced from $35- $50 with half priced-tickets available for children under 18. Poetry in Music is the first of two concerts in Orchestra Miami's new Pinecrest Classical series. The next event on Sunday, April 26th will be Cuba, mi amor, featuring soprano Eglise Gutierrez in an evening of Cuban classics by Lecuona, Roig, Sanchez de Fuentes and more.
