South Florida Institute on Aging presents Third Annual Sofia
Thursday, Feb 27, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM - English
CBS4 Miami news anchor Rudabeh Shahbazi, Comcast, Jim Moran Foundation, Deluca Foundation, Jewish Federation, Community Foundation of Broward and United Way of Broward County are among the honorees that will be recognized when the South Florida Institute on Aging (SoFIA) hosts SoFIA Celebrates: Uniting Communities presented by AARP.
"This year's honorees join SoFIA in delivering programs that directly impact the social and economic needs of today's seniors," said SoFIA President and CEO Peter Kaldes, Esq. "Together they have a lasting, profound effect on the lives of so many older adults in our community, allowing them the opportunity to think, act and thrive."
During the Third Annual SoFIA Celebrates, the Think, Act and Thrive Awards will be presented to those in the community who are helping empower people as they age.
Receiving the Think Award is the Dignity in Aging Collaborative, which has supported the needs of seniors for decades, but over the last year thoughtfully galvanized the community. They are The Jim Moran Foundation, The Deluca Foundation, The Jewish Federation of Broward County, The Community Foundation of Broward County, and United Way of Broward County.
The Act Award honors leaders the community that are "doers," the ones who "walk the walk" and help make things happen. Given the increasing needs of a growing aging population, the Act Award recognizes those that help find solutions to today's challenges. CBS4 Miami news anchor Rudabeh Shahbazi embodies that description. Shahbazi has used her platform to bring to light pressing needs and innovative solutions to help the local aging population thrive.
Comcast works with seniors throughout the country to help them thrive and for these efforts, the company will receive the Thrive Award. Comcast offers discounted, affordable high-speed internet to seniors so they can keep up with current events, stay in touch with family and friends and access resources they may need.
SoFIA also offers opportunities for volunteers to work with children, seniors and veterans. Those volunteers will be recognized with awards during SoFIA Celebrates: Uniting Communities for their service, dedication and commitment to SoFIA.
Sponsors also include Friends of SoFIA: Aetna, Citrix, Comcast, Intuition Robotics, Sunshine Health, Walmart, and Responsive Home Care.
Guests will enjoy a cocktail reception, silent auction and live musical entertainment in the Mary N. Porter Ballroom overlooking the New River. Tickets are $90 and increase to $125 on January 30 and available at www.thesofia.org/celebrate. For sponsorship opportunities, contact Adi Goldstein at call or email.
