ORIENTE Latin Soul Jazz

Eddy Balzola and his 6 pc band ORIENTE! presents an exciting mix of Afro-Latin Jazz, Blues, and Rhythm-n-Soul. The guitarist, composer and arranger was born in Guanabacoa, Cuba, a town known for its Afro-Cuban folklore and culture. Eddy began touring the USA and Europe with a wide variety of bands, and soon he developed his signature sound.

ORIENTE! began their first tour in the mid-90's at famed New Orleans Jazz club "Snug Harbor" where the band's sizzling, rhythmic yet melodic Afro-Cuban sounds created a buzz among the savvy audiences with some of the best musicians in town. Since then they've played many festivals and concerts etc. - "Music Voyager" (on Prime Video &YouTube), JVC Miami, St, Lucia Jazz Fest, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage, MOJA Pan African Fest and Piccolo Spoleto (Charleston SC), Sankofa (Miami), South Beach Food & Wine Fest, performing "Live on the Food Network" with Chef Bobby Flay, and many more.

ORIENTE! continues to record and perform creative, original music with fresh arrangements and exciting stage presence. Balzola remains ever evolving and creative with the band's instrumentation, space and sound. His stellar lineup for Sept. 6th will feature long-time band members including multi- percussionist Yoel Del Sol (Cuba), trumpeter Stuart King (Memphis, TN), trombonist William Paredes (Cuba), upright and electric bassist Rusty Hari Heck (Chicago/P.R.), and featuring a very special guest, drummer John Yarling.

  • Detroit born drummer John Yarling has been described as "always being in service to the song". He can be heard pushing boundaries, while playing open, modern, improvised music/jazz. John is a respected educator, teaching at Frost School of Music - Univ. of Miami, for over 20 years, including playing and recording with jazz great Ira Sullivan. He's backed up jazz artists like Nat Adderly, Mose Allison, Larry Coryell, Lou Donaldson, Mike Stern, Kevin Mahogany, Trombone legend Curtis Fuller.
  • Among ORIENTE's five veteran and exceptional band musicians, they've opened for, or performed with - Pharoah Sanders, Paquito D'Rivera, The Isley Bros., Federico Britos, Neville Bros., Celia Cruz, Mongo Santamaria, Yanni, Nestor Torres, Chi-Lites, Ray Barreto, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Jimmy Riley, Richie Cole, Arturo Sandoval, Debbie Spring, Jesse Jones, Jr., Melton Mustafa Jr. and many more. The band's musical palette will range from melodic, bluesy, swingin' and sensitive, to get-down funky. On September 6th you can expect colorful, organic rhythms and serious soul, all with the freedom of improvisation at any moment. Sit down (or Up) and enjoy!
