New Atlantis a Group Show of Miami Artists

Opening reception: October 16, 2025 6-10pm.

Green Space Miami is excited to showcase the recipients of the 2025 open call, an invitation to artists to unleash their creativity and celebrate the vibrant communities that have shaped this city. Imagine neighborhoods thriving, bursting into song and dance, while the relentless march of development tries to overshadow their stories. Miami, a city grappling with rising seas and the weight of its growing, towering skyline, is a melting pot of cultures evolving into something novel a New Atlantis.

Once a playground for tourists, Miami has rapidly transformed into a vibrant metropolis fueled by waves of immigration. Miami is a city that’s often misunderstood, sometimes mocked, yet always revered and feared. It’s a place that refuses to be ignored, even as its identity remains a mystery. Amidst shifting sands and rising tides, the descendants of those who built Miami are keeping their culture alive in the hidden gems untouched by the glitz of Miami Vice and Vice City. They are the heartbeat of this city, shaping its identity and ensuring that the spirit of Miami continues to thrive.

Why Atlantis?
Plato’s Atlantis is an enduring myth about a thriving utopia that swiftly disappeared beneath the waves, destroyed by nature’s unstoppable force. It serves as an allegory for a powerful society racing ahead only to collapse under its own arrogance. The political parable of Atlantis emphasizes the importance for vigilance in upholding the values of democracy and ensuring balanced governance.

A special thank you to punk legend and Miami resident for over two decades, Iggy Pop, who kindly gave Green Space Miami his blessing to include his ode to Miami, a song titled New Atlantis, as a prompt for the artists: NEW ATLANTIS Song and lyrics by Iggy Pop
