Pardon My French

Sunday, Mar 24, 2019 at 2:00 PM - English

  • A French Cabaret Show in English
  • by and with Tangi Colombel

“Pardon My French” is an unorthodox French Cabaret Show, in English bien sur. A one-of-a-kind performance with classic Parisian songs, Gallic humor and just the right amount of jokes that will make you blush.

Pardon my French is filled with classic French songs like “C’est magnifique”, “C’est si bon”, “If you go away” and songs from French related movies like “Gigi”, “An American in Paris”, “Let’s make love”....

But don’t think for a second that it is only another tribute to Colombel’s French heritage, not! Tangi adds his own flavor, his “Ameri-French” sense of humor and this “je ne sais quoi” that will make you ask for more!

Some material may be inappropriate for a younger audience.

The Aces Of Austria

Sunday, Mar 24, 2019 at 2:00 PM - English

From the City of Music comes chamber works steeped in great tradition, led by Vienna’s own star cellist Tamás Varga. Erich Korngold’s lush String Sextet nods to fellow Austrians Mahler and Strauss while foreshadowing his future as the father of Hollywood film music. Franz Joseph Haydn infuses sophistication and spontaneity in his trio for flute, cello and piano. After moving to the U.S., Vienna-born Arnold Schoenberg wistfully recalls music where tonality and rhythmic stability were paramount in his Second Chamber Symphony, one of his only tonal later works.

Frida - Miami-Dade County Auditorium

Sunday, Mar 24, 2019 at 3:00 PM - English

Robert Xavier Rodríguez’s colorful score is a perfect match for the passionate art of the legendary painter Frida Kahlo.

Although the artist was wracked by agonizing physical pain and caught up in a stormy marriage to Diego Rivera, the flame that fueled Kahlo’s art just kept burning and never turned to ash. She created fifty-five self-portraits. But no portrait of her is quite as revealing as the one in Rodríguez’s opera.

2 Across By Jerry Mayer

Sunday, Mar 24, 2019 at 5:00 PM - English

Rehearsals have begun for 2 Across, Pigs Do Fly Productions’ upcoming production of Jerry Mayer’s ‘comedy of crosswords and romance’. The show will run from March 7th through March 24th at Empire Stage in Fort Lauderdale.

2 Across finds two strangers, a man and a woman, on board a San Francisco BART train at 4:30 a.m. Alone in the car, the only thing they have in common is that they are both doing the New York Times crossword puzzle. Soon the puzzles they unravel are more intriguing than any crossword puzzle could ever be.

This is our first play that focuses on a relationship between two people,” says Pigs Do Fly Productions’ founder and Executive Producer Ellen Wacher. “It also totally meets with our company’s mission - to show people over the age of 50 living interesting and active and real lives. I was captivated by these characters’ development, and I believe our audience will be too.

Deborah Kondelik, who starred in both of Pigs Do Fly’s recent successful productions of The Ladies Foursome, will direct 2 Across: “It has been said that opposites attract,” Kondelik said recently. “Whether or not that rings true remains to be seen in Jerry Mayer’s hilarious yet poignant, romantic comedy. One thing that is guaranteed though, is a delightful very early morning romp by two strangers on San Francisco’s BART train. The tie that binds is that both of them are hard at work on the Saturday New York Times crossword puzzle. Although they tackle the puzzle with very different approaches, they soon discover commonalities that cannot be ignored. The stumbling block is that both are married . . . to someone else.

Barbara Sloan and David R. Gordon will star in 2 Across, and both are excited at the prospect of exploring their diametrically opposite characters: Sloan’s Janet is a responsible, honest, rule-abiding psychologist, and Gordon’s Josh is part-free spirit, part executive, part dreamer, and part Peter Pan.

Playwright Jerry Mayer has written scripts for All in the Family, M*A*S*H*, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and the Bob Newhart Show (where he served as story editor). His first play, Almost Perfect ran for a year and a half at the Santa Monica Playhouse. Other plays include the musical You Haven’t Changed a Bit, and Other Lies and Dietrich and Chevalier, The Musical.

Crazy for You

Sunday, Mar 24, 2019 at 2:00 PM - English

The Wick Theatre is thrilled to present the timeless musical comedy Crazy for You, one of the most entertaining shows of all time a musical feast that showcases more than 20 Gershwin songs and recreates the golden era of the 1930's follies-style lavish production numbers. Tickets are $75-$85, website or call the box office.

"Crazy for You features show-stopping musical numbers, fabulous songs and a tender and hilarious plot revolving around a love triangle," said Marilynn A. Wick, Managing Executive Producer. "With a score by the Gershwins, who could ask for anything more?"

This fast-paced, energetic extravaganza features lyrics by Ira Gershwin, music by George Gershwin, and book by Ken Ludwig. Billed as "The New Gershwin Musical Comedy," it is largely based on the songwriting team's 1930 musical, Girl Crazy, but incorporates songs from several other productions as well. Crazy for You won the 1992 Tony for Best Musical, the 1993 Olivier Award (London) and 1994 Dora Award (Toronto) for Best Musical.

The plot revolves around a well-to-do young New Yorker, Bobby Child, who is sent to Nevada to foreclose on a theatre owned by the family business. Falling in love with the local postmistress, Bobby decides to produce a show to save the theatre. Showgirls and cowboys deliver beloved classic songs including "Embraceable You," "I Got Rhythm," "Nice Work if You Can Get It," "They Can't Take That Away From Me," and the heartbreaking ballad "But Not For Me."

Crazy for You is being directed by Norb Joerder with choreography by David Wanstreet, and stars Julie Kleiner and Matt Loehr.
