Jose Negroni and Miami-Dade County Auditorium present "Serrat... En Voz de Mujer" on Saturday, August 15 at 8pm at the Koubek Center.
Music director and producer Jose Negroni, recognized for his multiple Latin Grammy nominations for his jazz projects with Negroni's Trio and his work as a solo pianist, joins acclaimed flamenco singer Ana del Rocio to present "Serrat... En Voz de Mujer", an intimate evening of music and conversation exploring the most iconic songs of legendary Catalan singer-songwriter Joan Manuel Serrat. This unique fusion of jazz piano and flamenco-inspired vocals promises a deeply moving and artistically refined musical experience, a true delight for the musical palate that honors both Serrat's legacy and the expressive power of women in music.
This performance is part of MDCA's Away From Home Series, a program that consists of off-site events at alternative venues with community partners while MDCA is temporarily closed for renovations.

Long before Hy Vong became one of Miamis most beloved restaurants, it began with an unlikely friendship between two women whose lives were forever changed by war, then brought together through resilience, compassion, and hope.

This August, their remarkable story takes the stage in SOUP The Musical, based on the memoir Mango & Peppercorns, which tells the true story of Tung Nguyen and Kathy Manning.
After arriving in Miami as a refugee from Vietnam, Tung found an unexpected home with Kathy. Together, they built a family, a future, and eventually Hy Vong, the intimate Vietnamese restaurant that became a treasured part of Miamis cultural and culinary history.
For generations of diners, Hy Vong was more than a restaurant. It was a place where meals unfolded slowly, strangers became friends, and every dish carried a story. Tung and Kathy became beloved figures in the community, known as much for their warmth, personalities, and unforgettable partnership as for the food they served.
Though inspired by real people and real events, SOUP The Musical tells a universal story about finding home, building family, and discovering that the strongest bonds are often formed around a shared table.
Through an original score filled with humor, heartache, hope, and joy, SOUP The Musical celebrates the resilience of the human spirit while honoring the rich cultural fabric that has shaped Miami.
Produced by The Mandelstam Theater, the world premiere runs August 14 through August 23, 2026.
The musical features an original score and lyrics by award-winning Miami composer, recording artist, and singer-songwriter Jim Camacho. Known for his distinctive storytelling and a career spanning albums, film, television, and theater, Camacho is the composer of the South Florida holiday tradition Mouse King. His score for SOUP The Musical captures the humor, humanity, and emotional depth of Tung and Kathy's journey while celebrating the energy and character of Miami itself.
This is an immigrant story, but more than that, it's an American story. It's about someone who loses everything, leaves a war torn country with little more than hope, and through hard work, determination, and the kindness of others builds a new life. Along the way, she shares the flavors, traditions, and recipes of her homeland, creating a restaurant that brings people from every background together around the same table, Jim Camacho shares. Hy Vong became more than a restaurant. It became a place where cultures met, friendships were formed, and a community grew. I hope audiences leave inspired by the courage it takes to start over, the compassion that makes that possible, and the belief that the American dream is still alive for those willing to strive for it.
The book is written by Gil Kaufman, who also directs the production. The creative team includes choreographer Stefanie Roos and musical director John Camacho.

Many Voices, One Nation: En Nuestras Palabras

In celebration of America's 250th anniversary, the Coral Gables Museum presents the world premiere of Many Voices, One Nation: En Nuestras Palabras is a landmark exhibition exploring how diverse communities across the United States have shaped, and continue to shape, the American story.
Developed by the Allapattah Collaborative CDC in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution and Florida Humanities, the exhibition weaves together Smithsonian-curated content with local historical photographs, art, artifacts, video testimonials, and oral histories. Visitors will encounter narratives of expansion, freedom, inclusion, equality, migration, and cultural negotiation drawing particular attention to the voices of Caribbean and Latin American immigrants whose stories are woven into the fabric of South Florida and the nation.
As the country marks 250 years of nationhood, this exhibition invites all Americans to reflect on what unity means when it is built from many languages, many origins, and many lived experiences.

The Contemporary Art Modern Project is elated to announce a special summer exhibition in collaboration with Aurora Molina and her students at Play Studio Artelier. At Play Studio Artelier, they believe every child is an artist with a unique voice. Under the guidance of artist and educator Aurora Molina, her students are invited to explore contemporary art through curiosity, experimentation, and the transformative language of fiber.
The portraits presented in this exhibition are more than representations of facesthey are expressions of identity, observation, and imagination. Through weaving, stitching, and textile-based techniques, each young artist discovered how thread can become a medium for storytelling, connection, and creative confidence.
We are honored to present these works at The CAMP Gallery, celebrating the creativity of our young artists and reaffirming our belief that when children are given the opportunity to create with intention, their voices become an essential part of our cultural conversation. At Play Studio Artelier, we see art not only as a means of making, but as a way of thinking, connecting, and shaping the future.

Abstraction as Legacy

Part document, part subjective storytelling, visual art illustrates and offers nuance to significant moments in U.S. history. From portraits of well-known leaders to history paintings that speak to the sacrifice and strength of the American people, the power of paint to render subjects remains unquestionable.
The act of painting can also make history. Through hard edges and expressive forms, American artists re-imagined painting and used abstraction as a mechanism to consider the human body, natural environs, architecture, emotion, and an economy of line.

This exhibition is not meant to be exhaustive but intended to highlight the breadth of painterly abstraction in the United States. Following the 1950s, it became clear that the art world turned to the U.S. for ingenuity and boundary-breaking abstract art forms. From trends that arose in Havana and made it to the U.S. through exile to experiments developed in New York and Los Angeles, the legacy of American abstraction evolves as rich and varied. The featured artists include Young-Il Ahn, Sam Gilliam, Carmen Herrera, Hans Hofmann, Virginia Jaramillo, Lloyd Kiva New, William de Kooning, George Morrison, Noemi Ruiz, Zilia Sanchez, and Vaughn Spann.
On July 4, 2026, the U.S. commemorates and celebrates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This historic milestone offers an opportunity to pause and reflect on this nation's past, honor the contributions of Americans, and to look ahead toward the future we aspire to create for the next generation and beyond. The legacy of painterly abstraction in the U.S. offers a distinctive way to celebrate the creativity and innovation that defines the American spirit.

MOAD Talks - A Conversation with Khadijah Cypress

Join the Museum of Art and Design's Consulting Curator, Isabela Villaneuva in conversation with Khadijah Cypress for MOAD Talks at the Freedom Tower.
Khadijah Cypress is a tribal member from The Miccosukee Tribe. She is Bird Clan and the mother of two boys. She works at the school on the reservation as a cultural and crafting teacher. She runs a cultural center on a volunteer basis outside of the school. She has been sewing cultural attire since she was 14 years old. Since picking up a pair of scissors and sitting at an industrial sewing machine, she has accomplished several things including sewing for the tribe's fashion show and hosted the tribe's fashion show twice. Her work was presented in an exhibition at the Perez Art Museum from 2021 to 2022.

This conversation with Khadijah Cypress is presented in conjunction with the Museum of Art and Design's exhibition Abstraction as Legacy. This exhibition features a work by painter Lloyd Kiva New who was also a fashion designer and was a co-founder of Institute of American Indian Arts.
Light refreshments will be served.
Museum admission is free for attendees of the talk.
Event attendees may park for free in the MDC garage at 500 NE Second Avenue, between NE Fifth and NE Sixth Streets.
