Aids Diva: The Legend of Connie Norman

Saturday, Apr 24, 2021 various times - English

The number and range of people involved in the struggle for AIDS victims is larger and wider than we can possibly know. It’s proven once again by this intriguing portrait of Connie Norman, a local LA activist who worked tirelessly to make a difference. Director Dante Alencastre deftly handles this portrait of a political figure whose HIV diagnosis spurred her eloquent rage against complacency, hatred and denial as the AIDS virus ravaged the queer community. Yet Norman is also shown as a nuanced early spokesperson for trans rights, raising her head high above the parapet and creating an unbreakable bridge between sexuality and gender that we are still crossing today.

Everything at Once (Todo a la Vez)

Saturday, Apr 24, 2021 at 12:00 AM - English

Paco and Manolo are two Catalan photographers from the outskirts of Barcelona who have been together for thirty years. Both have managed to work as photographers and have captured their images in a Kink magazine, a very personal photography fanzine with a Mediterranean homoerotic aesthetic. Paco and Manolo’s style can be defined as sophisticatedly simple - recording the sex appeal of the working class with use of natural light, abandoned places and stark rooms - a mix of aesthetics and style that reflects influences from Caravaggio to Pasolini. The artists become discreet witnesses of the subjects and intimacy of those men who want to be photographed. They contact the artists through social networks with the desire to be portrayed naked and in doing so not only bare their bodies but their inhibitions as well. The clothes fall, the bodies are freed, and the souls end up being captured by the lens of this intensely cultured, cinematic and urban couple. Everything At Once is a beautiful story of true artists, their art and a special relationship that has lasted for three decades.

Saint-Narcisse

Saturday, Apr 24, 2021 various times - English

Commencing with a crotch shot before launching into a rambunctious laundromat sex scene, Saint-Narcisse puts us on notice: Bruce LaBruce is going to take us for a ride. It’s 1972 in Montreal and gorgeous Dominic states his narcissism by snapping Polaroid selfies and gazing longingly at his own hot and hunky reflection. When he learns that his birth mother is still alive, he embarks on a quest to find her. Not only does he discover her living with another woman, but he also learns that he has a twin brother Daniel who’s serving as a whipping boy-toy for a particularly depraved priest. Laying eyes on Daniel, Dominic can see the appeal. LaBruce puts his own irreverent spin on the notion of self-discovery in this occasionally twincestuous tale of doppelgängers, doppelbängers and skewed family values. Bawdy yet affectionate, ribald yet resonant, this singular redemption tale will leave you reeling until the end credits roll in this deliciously camp quest for identity.

Lane, Bertie and Fred once shared a polyamorous relationship in New Orleans. Bertie is disillusioned in her jazz career, still grieving the loss of her mother, and clearly alienated in this small, white, European town. Lane attempts to recreate their old, carefree dynamic, hoping that her return might lighten Bertie's mood -- but Bertie isn't having it. It seems time hasn't healed all wounds... so Lane shifts her strategy when she meets Noa, a young artist and former soldier, quickly reigniting dormant jealousies. Narrative Film Winner of the Sundance Film Festival’s NEXT section, My Belle, My Beauty is a polyamorous cross cultural film in which the journey is as wonderful as the destination.
