Arte Nuova: Art Nouveau Music in Italy

Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 7:00 PM - English

Orchestra Miami begins its new Saturdays at Trinity Chamber Music series with an exploration of the lush music of the Italian Arte Nuova, featuring works by Respighi, Puccini and Tosti.

Orchestra Miami is excited to partner with the Music Ministry of Episcopal Cathedral to create the Saturdays at Trinity Series in their historic sanctuary in Downtown Miami. These concerts will feature music performed by soloists from Orchestra Miami along with the finest singers in South Florida. The series, performed on Saturdays at 7 PM, will explore the lush and opulent music of the Art Nouveau era (roughly 1885 to the 1930's).

This period is known for its opulence, lushness and eclecticism-music that was often theatrical, grandly scaled, and adorned with complex harmonies. Our exploration of the Art Nouveau era begins in Italy, where we discover stile floreale, or "floral style" music. The music of this era pushed boundaries and created a lush sound as it expanded the musical ideals of the early 1900's.

The program includes Il Tramonto, a breathtaking and dramatic lyric poem/cantata composed by Ottorino Respighi for string quartet and mezzo-soprano, Respighi's gorgeous, rarely heard Piano Quintet in F Minor. The program also explores some of the lesser-known works of one of Italy's most famous composers, Giacomo Puccini, Crisantemi for string quartet and some of his art songs. Lastly the program ends with some of Italy's sunniest works, canzoni Napoltane by Giorgio Tosti.

The performers include some of Orchestra Miami's finest musicians- Huifang Chen and Dale Sandvold on the violin, Gregory Falkenstein on the viola and Susan Bergeron on cello- along with Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi on the piano. Also featured are special guests Metropolitan Opera Grand Finalist Award winner, mezzo-soprano Maggie Reneé and frequent Orchestra Miami collaborator, tenor Gerardo Ortega.

Admission is on a Pay-What-You-Wish basis starting at just $5, or you can reserve a front row seat for just $30! You are invited to join a wine and bubbly reception with the artists following the performance.

Saturday, May 16, 2026, 7 PM at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 464 NE 16 Street, Miami, 33132 in downtown Miami. The Snake Head Project

Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 7:30 PM - English

The Snake Head Project, a comedic reimagining of the Medusa myth, flips the familiar legend on its head. Long believed slain by Perseus, Medusa has in fact survived living through the centuries and reemerging in the present day as a healer for women grappling with the aftermath of sexual violence. With wit, irreverence, and interactive theatrical flair, the play brings gods, mortals, and audiences into a sharp collision between ancient myth and contemporary reality.

Beneath humor and bold storytelling lies a deeper exploration of power and survival, asking: who controls the stories we inherit? What happens when the "monster" finally speaks for herself?

Tickets: $15-30

Susan Lee-Chun: Everybody Suz-ercise! Artist Reception

Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM - English

Join MOAD and Susan Lee-Chun at MDC's Padrón Campus for a reception celebrating Susan Lee-Chun: Everybody Suz-ercise!

Part of the larger project Everybody Suz-ercise! this humorous and engaging body of work by artist Susan Lee-Chun (b. 1976, Seoul) transforms an art gallery into a gym space. It includes a video art series, photographs from her performances, and an uncanny installation. Together, this presentation of Lee-Chun's work explores exercise culture, gender norms, and the racialized beauty industry.

Suzercise (mirrored symmetry, composition #1) doubles benches, weights, and other gym equipment in a carefully symmetrical arrangement, creating an uncanny, almost stage-like setting that feels both real and familiar, artificial and strange. The mirrored layout suggests reflection, evoking the ways in which cultural identities are replicated and reflected back to us as branded alter egos. Her video series, Let's Suz-ercise Chicago-style!, documents a performance from 2009 inspired by aerobic exercise VHS tapes.

Lee-Chun is known for adopting a series of alter egos—Sue, Sioux, and Su—that embody shifting cultural and social personas, from mainstream assimilation to perceived "otherness." Through these characters, she playfully unsettles expectations about authenticity and belonging, using humor and commercial aesthetics to draw viewers in through familiarity, only to subvert those expectations. By turning an everyday site of training into a space of critical reflection, Lee Chun exposes how beauty, fitness, and cultural symbols are packaged for consumption—inviting viewers to question where the line between perception and reality, artifice and authenticity, truly lies.

Based in Miami, Florida, Susan Lee-Chun has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. Her work, while humorous and playful, challenges culture, stereotype and representation.

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artist and enjoy the exhibition, conversation, and refreshments. Museum staff will be available to answer questions about the exhibition.

This event is free and open to the public.

Free parking is available at MDC's Padrón Campus flat parking lot located at 2501 SW 6TH Street, Miami, FL 33135.

Riddims of Graffiti: A Solo Exhibition by Izia Lindsay

Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM - English

Opening Reception

DVCAI at Barry University presents Riddims of Graffiti, a solo exhibition featuring Izia Lindsay, MFA, Assistant Professor of Art at Augustana University. The exhibition opens May 14, 2026 and runs through August 22, 2026. Lindsay is a mixed media artist working across digital and traditional processes. His work draws on Caribbean iconography rooted in tradition and reimagined through contemporary ideas to create layered visual narratives that reflect on identity and class in a post-colonial society. Free and open to the public.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Izia Lindsay is a mixed media artist who works across digital and traditional media to create bold, multi-layered visual stories. Grounded in Caribbean iconography and shaped by contemporary ideas, his work explores identity and class in a post-colonial society drawing from material culture, indigenous histories, lived traditions, and the ever-changing landscape of the Caribbean.Known for geometric forms and dynamic compositions, Lindsay builds what he describes as a kind of “controlled naturalism,” where lines and shapes intersect, overlap, and hold multiple meanings at once. The result is a cultural narrative that reflects the dualities of a turbulent, cosmopolitan Caribbean life.
