Banyan Dance Festival (happening August 3-8 in West Palm Beach) brings together professional artists, aspiring dancers, choreographers, and community members through performances, training opportunities, creative development, and public engagement experiences.

Natural Movers Foundation in partnership with Grounded West Palm Beach will present the Banyan Dance Festival, developed as a new model for dance presentation in The Palm Beaches. Designed to strengthen South Florida's dance ecosystem, the week-long festival brings together professional artists, aspiring dancers, choreographers, and community members through performances, training opportunities, creative development, and public engagement experiences.
Festival faculty and featured artists include internationally recognized choreographers and educators Sean Aaron Carmon, Babatunji, and Loni Landon, alongside other local, national, and international artists participating throughout the week.
Throughout the week, Banyan Dance Festival will offer programming designed to engage artists, dancers, students, and the broader community, including:
- Young Artist Program (YAP) for dancers ages 9-15
- Banyan Dance Intensive (Pre-Professional Track) for dancers ages 16-25
- Banyan Community Class sponsored by the Downtown Development Authority
- Banyan Silent Disco hosted by Nora District
- Banyan Company class and rehearsal observations, artist talkbacks, and behind-the-scenes opportunities for the community to engage with the creative process
- The Banyan Gala, celebrating the artists, supporters, and creative work developed throughout the week. The Gala kick-offs with a cocktail hour that leads into an intimate performance preview and concludes with a courtyard reception featuring light bites and a social gathering
- The Banyan Dance Festival Concert, a dynamic evening featuring world premieres, newly commissioned works, and performances by acclaimed local, national, and international artists
The Banyan Dance Festival is funded in part by the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County through its Bright Ideas Sponsorship.

MOAD Movies: The Last Days of the Miami News

Join the Museum of Art and Design for a night at the movies when we screen The Last Days of the Miami News.
This documentary was shot during the last days of operation for the local newspaper the Miami News. Provided with unlimited access to all areas involved in the publication of the Miami News, film director Mel Kiser captures the final events, thoughts and activities of the staff as they prepare the final issue of the Miami News.
Katharine Labuda, Special Collections & Archives Librarian of Miami Dade-Public Library System, will introduce the film.
Event attendees may park for free in the MDC garage at 500 NE Second Avenue, between NE Fifth and NE Sixth Streets.
The Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) at MDC may document the event, including its attendees. By entering the area, and/or participating in the event, you consent to the recording and its use in any form.

Many Voices, One Nation: En Nuestras Palabras

In celebration of America's 250th anniversary, the Coral Gables Museum presents the world premiere of Many Voices, One Nation: En Nuestras Palabras is a landmark exhibition exploring how diverse communities across the United States have shaped, and continue to shape, the American story.
Developed by the Allapattah Collaborative CDC in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution and Florida Humanities, the exhibition weaves together Smithsonian-curated content with local historical photographs, art, artifacts, video testimonials, and oral histories. Visitors will encounter narratives of expansion, freedom, inclusion, equality, migration, and cultural negotiation drawing particular attention to the voices of Caribbean and Latin American immigrants whose stories are woven into the fabric of South Florida and the nation.
As the country marks 250 years of nationhood, this exhibition invites all Americans to reflect on what unity means when it is built from many languages, many origins, and many lived experiences.

Abstraction as Legacy

Part document, part subjective storytelling, visual art illustrates and offers nuance to significant moments in U.S. history. From portraits of well-known leaders to history paintings that speak to the sacrifice and strength of the American people, the power of paint to render subjects remains unquestionable.
The act of painting can also make history. Through hard edges and expressive forms, American artists re-imagined painting and used abstraction as a mechanism to consider the human body, natural environs, architecture, emotion, and an economy of line.

This exhibition is not meant to be exhaustive but intended to highlight the breadth of painterly abstraction in the United States. Following the 1950s, it became clear that the art world turned to the U.S. for ingenuity and boundary-breaking abstract art forms. From trends that arose in Havana and made it to the U.S. through exile to experiments developed in New York and Los Angeles, the legacy of American abstraction evolves as rich and varied. The featured artists include Young-Il Ahn, Sam Gilliam, Carmen Herrera, Hans Hofmann, Virginia Jaramillo, Lloyd Kiva New, William de Kooning, George Morrison, Noemi Ruiz, Zilia Sanchez, and Vaughn Spann.
On July 4, 2026, the U.S. commemorates and celebrates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This historic milestone offers an opportunity to pause and reflect on this nation's past, honor the contributions of Americans, and to look ahead toward the future we aspire to create for the next generation and beyond. The legacy of painterly abstraction in the U.S. offers a distinctive way to celebrate the creativity and innovation that defines the American spirit.
