From Executive Producer Robert Reich and the filmmakers of THE LAST CLASS.

If you were invited to sit at a table with someone you've never met before and answer handwritten questions from a wooden box about the state of America, would you run the other way? The Work in Progress invites strangers from across generations and geographies to engage in candid discussions about America's ever-evolving democracy, identity, and definitions of community and where the heck we go from here. Guided by questions posed by Executive Producer Robert Reich, participants sit down in a series of conversations with one another to explore the country they're living in now and the one they still believe is possible.

These encounters are intercut with portraits of Americans at work in woodshops, laboratories, fields, board rooms, recording studios, theaters, and beyond. The message is simple but profound: America can work because, in many ways, it's already working. And a central part of the work ahead is to reclaim the practices of dialogue, debate, compromise, and perhaps most importantly, listening, so that we might find our footing again.

What emerges in The Work in Progress is an unusual and provocative glimpse of America in its 250th year, and an invitation to all Americans to pull up a chair, invite a stranger, and lend an ear.

Teatro Avante and Miami-Dade County Auditorium, in partnership with the Roxy Theater, presents "Zombi Manifiesto" as part of the 40th International Hispanic Theatre Festival, on Thursday, September 10, Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12 at 8:30 pm at the Westchester Cultural Arts Center (WCAC).

This performance is part of MDCA's Away From Home Series, a program that consists of off-site events at alternative venues with community partners while MDCA is temporarily closed for renovations.

Visit our exhibition, In the Flowers by Hayley Sheldon and experience her exploration of the natural in relation to her personal life.

Hayley's work uses color, shape, and repetition to explore the coexistence of joy and sorrow, beauty and grief. Drawing from specific plants, flowers, and landscapes connected to different seasons of her life, she uses the natural world as a source of metaphor for experiences that are difficult to articulate. Come by and experience the reflection of an ongoing search for beauty, meaning, and tranquility while navigating the complexities of being human.

Free admission. Registration not required. Open to the public and all ages. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Chromatic Frequencies by Renee Phillips

Visit our exhibition, Chromatic Frequencies by Renee Phillips and experience her exploration of medium and color in person.

Working with latex paint, spray paint and acrylic polymers, Phillips approaches each piece as an open dialogue in material investigation. Through experimentation, these everyday materials are pushed beyond their conventional uses, revealing distinct textures specific to each color, from wave like ripples to deep fissures and pooling paint drips. Chromatic Frequencies invites viewers to slow down, look closely, and experience color as a living presence.
