Deck & SipTM Workshop

An afternoon of workshop and films presented by Third Horizon and White Elephant Group.
Hosted by the Broward County Film Society at Savor Cinema, join Third Horizon and White Elephant Group for an afternoon and evening of creative development, Haitian cinema, and conversation featuring filmmakers Al'Ikens Plancher and Edson Jean.
The afternoon begins with Deck & SipTM, a fun, guided workshop where filmmakers and multidisciplinary creatives can make real progress on their pitch decks. Bring your laptop, a creative project or project idea, and any notes, images, references, or written materials you already have. Al'Ikens and Edson will guide participants through pitch-deck structure, project language, visual thinking, and practical tools for transforming loose materials into a clear creative presentation.

At 6pm, the program continues with Sinema Chat, a curated screening spotlighting the work of Haitian filmmaker Al'Ikens Plancher:

Following the screening, stay for an audience conversation and Q&A with Al'Ikens Plancher and Edson Jean, exploring the films, the creative process, and the stories behind the work.

Teatro Avante and Miami-Dade County Auditorium, in partnership with the Roxy Theater, presents "Carrusel" as part of the 40th International Hispanic Theatre Festival, on Thursday, September 3, Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5 at 8:30 pm and Sunday, September 6 at 5:00 pm at the Westchester Cultural Arts Center (WCAC).
This performance is part of MDCA's Away From Home Series, a program that consists of off-site events at alternative venues with community partners while MDCA is temporarily closed for renovations.

Many Voices, One Nation: En Nuestras Palabras

In celebration of America's 250th anniversary, the Coral Gables Museum presents the world premiere of Many Voices, One Nation: En Nuestras Palabras is a landmark exhibition exploring how diverse communities across the United States have shaped, and continue to shape, the American story.
Developed by the Allapattah Collaborative CDC in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution and Florida Humanities, the exhibition weaves together Smithsonian-curated content with local historical photographs, art, artifacts, video testimonials, and oral histories. Visitors will encounter narratives of expansion, freedom, inclusion, equality, migration, and cultural negotiation drawing particular attention to the voices of Caribbean and Latin American immigrants whose stories are woven into the fabric of South Florida and the nation.
As the country marks 250 years of nationhood, this exhibition invites all Americans to reflect on what unity means when it is built from many languages, many origins, and many lived experiences.

Visit our exhibition, In the Flowers by Hayley Sheldon and experience her exploration of the natural in relation to her personal life.
Hayley's work uses color, shape, and repetition to explore the coexistence of joy and sorrow, beauty and grief. Drawing from specific plants, flowers, and landscapes connected to different seasons of her life, she uses the natural world as a source of metaphor for experiences that are difficult to articulate. Come by and experience the reflection of an ongoing search for beauty, meaning, and tranquility while navigating the complexities of being human.

Visit our exhibition, Chromatic Frequencies by Renee Phillips and experience her exploration of medium and color in person.
Working with latex paint, spray paint and acrylic polymers, Phillips approaches each piece as an open dialogue in material investigation. Through experimentation, these everyday materials are pushed beyond their conventional uses, revealing distinct textures specific to each color, from wave like ripples to deep fissures and pooling paint drips. Chromatic Frequencies invites viewers to slow down, look closely, and experience color as a living presence.
