Bikes on a boat!
ARTcycle will host Bikes Become Art once again, but this time the works are being presented on a boat. ARTcycle is an ongoing art event that uses art to promote safer streets for cyclists. ARTcycle works with sculptors that use bike parts as materials for their work, artists that turn bikes into inspiring installations, and painters that use bicycles as the subject of their paintings.
From April 25 to May 31, Bikes Become Art will be in the spotlight on the Seafair Miami, the yacht on the Bayfront Park South Dock that seconds as an art exhibition space,At the last ARTcycle at the Coral Gables Art Museum earlier this year (which was a huge success, by the way), there was an installation titled “Come Dream With Me” from Carolina Molina. The interactive art piece featured a little girls bicycle with a white basket adorned with ribbons. Next to the bicycle, there was a box with paper and pens.
Visitors wrote their dreams or wishes on the paper provided and put it in the basket. At the upcoming show, there will be new pieces from emerging artists including bike sculptures from Vera Arias. (See Behind the Spokes story on miamiartzine.com about Vera Arias).ARTcycle showcases art that is approachable. Everyone can appreciate the pieces that pay homage to these beloved vehicles of recreation that many associate with positive emotional experiences or childhood memories. Moreover, the show provides a value to the community promoting the road to awareness, respect, and tolerance for those on the street. All aboard!
