“Crónica de un Suceso” by Rafael Ramírez is inspired by the figure of the famous flamenco dancer Antonio Gades (1936-2004). It is Ramírez's new trump card.
The artistic offering from FUNDarte's FL.Flamencos series, in collaboration with the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center and the Miami-Dade County Auditorium's Away From Home series, arrives in South Florida as part of Ramírez's U.S. tour.

Produced by Spain Flamenco Arts, and created and choreographed by Rafael Ramírez, Crónica de un suceso (Chronicle of a Time that Was) is an examination and celebration of famed flamenco dancer and choreographer Gades.
Ramírez says that “Gades stands out as an artist, a beacon, a unifying thread, and an undeniable protagonist, and we, his dedicated observers, aspire to draw him closer in each one of our performances. Gades is remembered for what he brought to flamenco and because of his contributions, flamenco has become what it is today.”
“Crónica de un suceso” is not a biographical journey and does not aim to imitate Antonio Gades, Ramírez emphasizes. The performance recalls the points of inflection in the impeccable road taken by Gades in which the language of flamenco dance crosses barriers towards the ultimate expression of the Avant Garde.
It is his dance, and his concept of the art of flamenco that have come to be the body and soul of the 21st century.

One of Spain’s most acclaimed young flamenco dancers, he began his professional career at the age of 11. Ramírez has performed with the dance companies of Antonia Andrade, Carmen Mota, David Coria, Rafaela Carrasco and María Pagés.
He is also a featured artist at tablaos (flamenco venues) throughout Spain such as the El Corral de la Morería in Madrid. In 2025, he is again invited by Spain Flamenco Arts to tour the U.S. with the production of Crónica de un suceso (Chronicle of a Time that Was) which honors the artistry of the legendary dancer Antonio Gades.
In 2023, Ramírez toured the United States with Lo Preciso, presented by Spain Flamenco Arts, with stops in New York, Washington D.C., Seattle, Portland, Sarasota, and Miami. The Miami Herald named it the Best Dance Performance of 2023, cementing his reputation as an artist whose work bridges Spanish tradition and international stages.
The current tour has already been to Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Sarasota, and after Miami spends four days in Washington DC and then a four day stint in New York. It ends in San Juan.
