The relatively new Little Haiti Mural Project's (LHMP) curated about 20 murals in Little Haiti during last year’s Art Basel with the aim of improving the quality of dilapidated buildings and uplifting the community.

“The goal from the beginning was to try and take a more active role in the aesthetic and socioeconomic changes that were already evident when we started in 2014. While the Wild Wild West dynamic of Wynwood has its merits and value, we sought to bring a little bit more of a conscientious organization to the murals going up throughout the neighborhood. Both in the locations of the murals, and in the content or style of them. We try as much as possible to have artists integrate elements of Haitian or Caribbean culture into the murals, while hopefully avoiding dampening their creativity,” said Yuval Ofir, founder of the project.

YOfir curates an exhibit of paintings and photography representative of Miami culture. Artists include Alessandro Abate, Aquarela Sabol, Nate Dee, Rei Ramirez and Teepop.

According to Ofir: “All the participating artists are based in Miami or South Florida, and Nate for example is Haitian himself. Whether the artists are of Haitian or Caribbean ancestry or not, we work on the concepts with them to ensure there is some kind of representation of those cultures. We have had some notable Haitian artists participate over the years though including Nate, Serge Toussaint, Turgo Bastien and others. It's great when we can truly incorporate people who exemplify the best of the local culture into what we're doing, and showcase the talent that runs through the veins of our city.”

For the past fifteen years, Viernes Culturales/Cultural Fridays, Inc. has been hosting a night of live music, art, and culture including domino games, cigar rolling, free tours and dancing in Little Havana on the last Friday of every month.

Pati Vargas of Viernes Culturales/Cultural Fridays curates an exhibit of paintings by Little Havana Art District artists Annie M., Marta Ismail, and Rolando Elejalde.

Founded in 1994, Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance is dedicated to preserving the Afro-Caribbean culture, with a focus on Haiti, for the benefit and enrichment of the local community. In collaboration with IPC Visual Lab, Carl Juste curates “Synchronicity” with works by photojournalists: Jennifer Kay, Marice Cohn Band, Charles Trainor Jr., C.W. Griffin, Patrick Farrell, and Juste, along with a new work by artist, Edouard Duval-Carrié, co-founder of the Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance. Juste, a Pulitzer Prize-winning, Miami Herald photojournalist and artist in residence at the HCAA said that this group of artists “come together through an acausal connection to bridge past experience with a singular Miami visual expression.”

And “Mystical and Ectoplasmic” is a showcase of sculptures by artists, Ivan Castillo Lagrangeand Bartus Bartolomes. #AtHomewithArt presents a rare opportunity for visitors to encounter art that captures the essence of a community. “In celebration of fine art expressions, the Home Show offers a great opportunity to shine light on the work and artistry of South Florida artists by creating a synchronized effort in defining and exhibiting local home-grown talent,” comments  Juste. Many of the artists will be on-site so visitors can discuss pieces of interest with their creator or just chat about a shared passion.
