Miami Dade College has been acquiring pieces of art since the 1960s, and its permanent collection now includes over 1,700 works in all mediums and genres.
Many of the pieces were initially acquired by art faculty members, some artists themselves including the late Robert Huff. A professor and chairman of the Visual Arts Department at the Kendall Campus, his own painting Lakeside Day III is one of the newest additions (a commemorative gift) to the current longstanding exhibition Recent Acquisitions + Highlights II.
Exhibited along white gallery walls on the second floor of the Freedom Tower, the exhibition, which opened with the first part last year, boasts a number of art pieces from other major figures in important modern, post-modern, and contemporary art. Notable artists include: Alex Katz, Ana Mendieta, Andres Serrano, Andy Warhol, Benjamin West, Claus Oldenburg, Donald Judd, Frank Stella, John Baldessari, Jose Bedia, Joseph Beuys, Louise Nevelson, Mario Algaze, Pat Lipsky, Peter Saul, Roy Lichtenstein, among others.
The exhibit is free and open to the public.
