Performed in the historic sanctuary of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Downtown Miami, this concert features the outstanding musicians of Orchestra Miami performing music by Georges Bizet, Gabriel Faure, Maurice Ravel and Fracis Poulenc.

This concert, performed on Saturday, June 13th at 7 PM, focuses on the lush and opulent music of the Art Nouveau era (roughly 1885 to the 1930's). This period is known for its opulence, lushness and eclecticism- music that was often theatrical, grandly scaled, and adorned with complex harmonies. The program includes the Piano Quartet in C Minor by Gabriel Faure. Full or warmth and optimism, this phenomenal work spans compositional influences from the Romantic to the Impressionistic era.

Orchestra Miami's Concert Master Mei Mei Luo performs the bravura Carmen Fantasy by Pablo Sarasate, a virtuosic take on the themes from Georges Bizet's most famous work, Carmen. The art of the chanson is represented by the Cinq melodies populaires grecques (Five popular Greek songs) by Maurice Ravel, an exquisite example of impressionism performed by tenor Gerardo Jose Ortega. The final piece on the program is the light-hearted and satiric Wind Sextet by Francis Poulenc, a pinnacle masterpiece of the woodwind repertoire.

The performers include some of Orchestra Miami's finest musicians- Mei Mei Luo, violin; Anthony Seepersad, violin; Mujan Hosseinzadeh, viola; Ashley Garritson, cello; Elissa Lakofsky, flute, Kendra Hawley, oboe; Richard Hancock, clarinet; Gabrielle Hsu, bassoon and special guest tenor Gerardo Jose Ortega, performing alongside Orchestra Miami's Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi at the piano.

Abstraction as Legacy

Saturday, Jun 13, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM - English

Part document, part subjective storytelling, visual art illustrates and offers nuance to significant moments in U.S. history. From portraits of well-known leaders to history paintings that speak to the sacrifice and strength of the American people, the power of paint to render subjects remains unquestionable.

The act of painting can also make history. Through hard edges and expressive forms, American artists re-imagined painting and used abstraction as a mechanism to consider the human body, natural environs, architecture, emotion, and an economy of line.

This exhibition is not meant to be exhaustive but intended to highlight the breadth of painterly abstraction in the United States. Following the 1950s, it became clear that the art world turned to the U.S. for ingenuity and boundary-breaking abstract art forms. From trends that arose in Havana and made it to the U.S. through exile to experiments developed in New York and Los Angeles, the legacy of American abstraction evolves as rich and varied. The featured artists include Young-Il Ahn, Sam Gilliam, Carmen Herrera, Hans Hofmann, Virginia Jaramillo, Lloyd Kiva New, William de Kooning, George Morrison, Noemi Ruiz, Zilia Sanchez, and Vaughn Spann.

On July 4, 2026, the U.S. commemorates and celebrates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This historic milestone offers an opportunity to pause and reflect on this nation's past, honor the contributions of Americans, and to look ahead toward the future we aspire to create for the next generation and beyond. The legacy of painterly abstraction in the U.S. offers a distinctive way to celebrate the creativity and innovation that defines the American spirit.

Riddims of Graffiti: A Solo Exhibition by Izia Lindsay

Saturday, Jun 13, 2026 at 6:00 PM - English

Opening Reception

DVCAI at Barry University presents Riddims of Graffiti, a solo exhibition featuring Izia Lindsay, MFA, Assistant Professor of Art at Augustana University. The exhibition opens May 14, 2026 and runs through August 22, 2026. Lindsay is a mixed media artist working across digital and traditional processes. His work draws on Caribbean iconography rooted in tradition and reimagined through contemporary ideas to create layered visual narratives that reflect on identity and class in a post-colonial society. Free and open to the public.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Izia Lindsay is a mixed media artist who works across digital and traditional media to create bold, multi-layered visual stories. Grounded in Caribbean iconography and shaped by contemporary ideas, his work explores identity and class in a post-colonial society drawing from material culture, indigenous histories, lived traditions, and the ever-changing landscape of the Caribbean.Known for geometric forms and dynamic compositions, Lindsay builds what he describes as a kind of “controlled naturalism,” where lines and shapes intersect, overlap, and hold multiple meanings at once. The result is a cultural narrative that reflects the dualities of a turbulent, cosmopolitan Caribbean life.
